Has anyone whos taken an exit HESI exam recently gotten questions on their exam which weren't in the HESI/Evolve study book in any form or fashion. I have found two unless i overlooked them somehow. One is a pediatric disease and one is more of a fundamentals issue.

SusanneCollins13 440 Posts May 4, 2009 I just took the Hesi and we had several questions that were not featured in the book. In fact there were at least five diseases that I had no knowledge about.
nminodob 243 Posts May 5, 2009 There were lots of questions on the HESI that I was clueless about - but the ones that were the hardest were the one I did know something about! More of a problem of double thinking the possible answers, for example, I know about the disease/scenario, but what do they WANT me to answer?
busy5kids 20 Posts May 8, 2009 Oh, gosh, I took the first HESI exit and failed bad! I just paid $300 for the "Hurst" review which I have heard several people talk about and they loved it! It help them pass it, so that's what Im hoping for this second time around. The questions seemed so easy, that I felt they were tricking me. Of course I chose the wrong answers on those and failed it! I just hope it goes well this second time around for me.

Fortunately, every question on the exam covered a topic that I'd seen before--whether in our texts or in the study guide. There was a question though that I STILL think was incorrectly scored. I answered it according to the information presented in the study guide where it specifically states a certain change that is to be expected in a certain population of patients. In reviewing the rationales at the end, it said something to the effect of, while this change may occur, it is not a uniform finding in this group. Grrrr......But I passed it with a decent score, so in the end I'm just glad that its DONE!!!! After three attempts, there are about 13 of 90 classmates that did not pass and will not be graduating with us this week, so pinning will be bittersweet.
dekagirlsRN 135 Posts May 10, 2009 I too failed the first time--just made some really stupid mistakes. When going over the rationales, I couldn't believe the answer I picked because I knew the right one. I think nerves had a lot to do with it, overthinking the question. The second time I took it, I thought it was sooooooo much harder, seeing things I never saw in the HESI book but I immediately went with my gut reaction and somehow scored much higher on the second test. HESI sucks big time--I feel for all those who need to re-take it. It's a horrible position to find yourself in but you will get through it.

I took my first hesi in may and failed it I was very anxious and don't remember much from the exam it's like a big blank couple of hours. After to talking to some of the students that took it with me the second time we decided that it was totally different than the 1st one we took two weeks ago. Does anybody think that the focus on the exam is different, I found the third version (we took it out of order) which was my second version was more focused on community nursing. I really thought I passed that time, I am stuck in remediation as we speak and even though I have been doing questions in saunders it worries me and I wonder what this other test will bring. Is it true that as it progresses it becomes harder in difficulty or do you guys believe that it just changes focus? I have tried to look for info out there but there is nothing really out there in cyberspace. My next showdown with the hesi is at the end of the month in case you are wondering and according to the director we will be taking version 4 because she said student's have told her that version 2 is harder. Thanks for reading and posting, it's encouraging to see your posts. I am hoping you will see my success story at the end of the month. E

It really, really helped on my Med/Surg portion of the HESI.Me and my classmates always seemed to get a lot of questions on Maternity, Psych, and professional issues.Other than that, I would suggest doing NCLEX 3500, or whatever new verison they have out of it.

I studied the hesi book cover to cover. including the famous "hesi hints" located on each page. i don't know what happen to me. i just have to regroup before the 2nd attemp in a couple of weeks.
