Excelsior's A&P

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Howdy Everyone,

Since EC's A&P comes up so frequently, I figured it would be helpful to us if we posted our trials and tribulations about it. Post your frustrations about A&P here. Of course, any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated.

My experience so far has been one of information overload with this subject. I know others feel the same way. I find that I refer to my condensed A&P books more than my very large textbook. I try to go over the information again and again. Right now, I am focusing on the cardiovascular system and then I will move on to the respiratory system. Also, I find visualization is very helpful. I had a book from the library with very large and colorful anatomy pictures in it, I think it was geared for middle school students but I found the pictures helpful.

I have considered that maybe this subject would be better learned in the classroom setting. Any thoughts on this?

I have talked to my doc. Here is an example of my CRS. I had another brain MRI done yesterday and had to take my partial out for the MRI as they said it would "cloud" the image. When I was done, I left and drove home only to get a message from the imaging center that I forgot my partial. I am also tired alot and my doc started me on Provigil. I have been on it for a week and it has helped with me being tired, but hasn't done anything for my memory. Going today for another EEG. Words of wisdom from anyone who can help would be appreciated

Oh Nightshift, I'm sorry you have to go through this. :( Chances are your brain has turned to poop is because of this big news you have been hit with. It's a lot to process! You're preoccupied with all going on in your life-- particularly this new dx. Of course you're going to forget your partial! Gosh, who wouldn't! The cruddy thing about MS is that like you said---- you don't know what road you will end up traveling. But I worked neurology right out of LPN school, and we saw a lot of MS patients--- most having the relapsing-remitting type. After the initial jolt of the dx had worn off, these people managed their illnesses very well. Most took very good care of themselves, trying to get enough sleep and to keep their stress levels as low as they could. Their exacerbations were usually pretty infrequent.

You need to do what ever you need to do to learn about this change in your life, and make changes in your life to adapt to it. The changes will probably be pretty minimal, and actually they'll be pretty helpful to you in other ways. Good quality sleep is good.... less emotional and physical stress is good. Just take everything one step at a time, and life will be good. You'll finish up this school thing at your own pace, as everyone should.

You're gonna be ok. No-- better than that, you're gonna be great.

Trust me. (

Niteshiftnurse,

My thoughts are with you. I have had cancer and I know how stressful it can be. Yes, I worry about a recurrence all the time. But, I have to admit that I look at life much differently now. Birds sound sweeter, flowers smell better and the sky is bluer then ever. It kind of comes and goes. I have days when I feel more stressful and the stress tries to take over. I try to tell myself that I will not let cancer take over my life. If I have a recurrence then we will deal with it when we have to. Of course the self pep talks don't always work but sometimes it does. When you go through a life altering event like cancer, life does change as you know it. I think that is one of the hardest things to accept. The fact that life will NEVER be the same. Not only do I have the emotional side but I also have the physical aspect due to a bilateral mastectomy. Yeah, it's a bummer, but I'm grateful that something could be done for me. Do you see what I mean... things could always be worse. Try to manage your stress by really getting in touch with what is the most important to you. No matter if you have had cancer or not , everyone is at risk of developing something or dying.

If you want you can pm me. Just try to keep your head up and your spirits as well. When you think about, what exactly is stress? Is it self induced or is someone in your life who is stressing you out. I didn't mean to go on and on but I hope this is helpful.

Niteshift,

Stress fills my life.... working full time, trying to be a halfway decent wife and mom, keep up a house, finishing up school. I have come to the realization that life will just never slow down.

But you know what---- the stressors I have are different from yours and some other peoples' on this board. My life has never been on the line (that I know of anyway) and my entire family is happy and healthy. You are stronger than I am. I bet I complain and whine about how I am so fed up with my stressful life about 10 times for every time that you have said it once.

You are the one who should be teaching me how to keep stress out of my life, girl!!! :p

Hang in there. Life will turn itself around, and one day things will be so much better for you---- because you deserve them to be.

Niteshift, You have no idea how much of an inspiration you are. We love you and wish the best for you. Angelbear
