Excelsior Transcripts

Here's my question regarding Excelsior College transcripts, how do they look after you have graduated? I'm planning on taking some courses that aren't applicable to the degree AFTER I complete the CPNE. I want to take the Psychiatric/Mental Health Exam & Maternal & Child Nursing Exam which both courses are upper level courses that aren't applicable to the degree along with the 120 hour preceptorship that's required by Arizona BON. What I'm going to wait on is graduation. I don't want confer graduation until after all of the exams are taken. I've spoken to Excelsior College and they really have no idea what I'm talking about and they wont send me a sample of nursing transcripts. Has anybody taken any exams for Excelsior that DON'T apply to the degree? Is there a section that states courses not applicable to the degree, and then it lists the courses that you received credit for? Or do they lump all of your courses that you took through Excelsior together, and at the bottom stating something like not all courses that were taken are applicable to the degree. My AA degree lists all of my courses taken whether they were applicable to my degree or not. Then at the top it stated my degree earned along with my basic information. Can anybody please tell me what their transcripts look like?

Ok, now I'm confused. Where is it stated here on this thread that Lunahs transcripts were assumed to be fake? Now I'm lost unless I missed a post. Anyway, from my experience regarding colleges here in California is that all courses taken from a college whether they apply to the degree or not will appear on the official transcript. I just find it hard to believe that Excelsior College would offer courses through examination and not put them on the official transcripts just because they don't apply to the degree awarded.

... I have a bunch of information on how to spot fraud on transcripts and some policies on how transcripts are unofficial or official.

From the statements I read it made it seem like you were wondering if her transcripts were fake due to the lack of other courses listed. In my experience when you take a course or exam that is not part of your degree program they send it to the college or university that requires it but do not maintain a transcript for it unless you pay an additional fee. I am in California and I have a ton of credits on my transcripts that are not part of the degree, but that is the California school way of doing things not every higher learning institution is the same.

My copy of Excelsior transcripts only has the courses applicable to the degree and my advisor once stated that only the courses and exams applicable to the degree will remain on the transcript. They have even taken classes off that were applicable but I already had enough credit for. I only have my unofficial, I don't have my official transcripts at this time.

Excelsior looks at all transcripts from all institutions that you provide to them. They pick and choose the courses that they will use toward your Excelsior degree. Those are listed. The extra courses that they are not using toward your EC degree are left off. However, all EC courses/tests are listed. And if you have more than one evaluation over the years, they can change their minds, and add, remove courses from the other schools. They did that to me. I just loved that they removed courses they had previously used where I got an A, only to replace them with courses where I had received a C. See the pattern that I saw?

I had the same thing happen with credits that had As getting replaced with courses that had Cs. It's annoying to say the least. They also don't have listed a bachelor's level nursing exam I took for my gpa, their rational was it's not applicable to my degree, it will be re-added if I choose to continue with them for my bsn and pay the fees to enroll in that program.

My statements weren't made to assume that Lunahs transcripts were a fake. I apologize if that's how it was interpreted, as that was definately not my intention. If you reread my post I was speaking of the information that was listed on my official transcripts regarding how to spot fraud. That's what is listed on my official transcripts along with other information that I don't really even understand, along with policies and procedures.

MsPC if you're in CA how do you plan on gaining licensure in CA through Excelsior? Is that what you meant on another post about using Palomar College?

I'm not planning too much regarding licensure in CA. I am going to apply when I have some experience as an RN. My main goal has been to gain employment at either the VA or on a military installation, which I can do on any state license. I looked into the Palomar option and may attempt it if I'm unsuccessful just applying. However, as I've noticed no one has stated they have actually applied; only those who have just contacted the BON, which like most, CA state agencies was less than helpful. I have some contacts at two of the three places I really desire to work due to my current and past military affiliations and I'm going to cross the bridge of getting a license in CA when I approach it. I'm going to donate my money to the state and let them tell me what will be required to become licensed and go from there if I choose to remain in CA.

I also am not an LVN, I gained entrance into the program through my status as a corpsman in the military so somewhere along the way I will be challenging my LVN license and will work on that if necessary while I get in with the VA or Military Installation.

Once again ... I did not take any classes at EC that did not apply to my degree, so I cannot say if they'd be on my ADN program transcripts. However, credits not used toward my ADN were not included, although they were certainly evaluated as part of my transcript review.

Courses that I took at the junior college level were only listed on my junior college transcripts. They weren't listed on my university transcripts. What was listed was the two junior colleges that I went to and that I had taken undergraduate courses there. But, all courses that I took at the university level were on my transcripts whether they went towards my degree or not. I think it's because they consider all courses taken where a grade was received counts towards your gpa. CA definately is different as we can see.
