Excelsior Online Program

Nursing Students Excelsior

I am curious if anyone has any info or has attended this program themselves, or knows anyone who has. I've done quite a bit of research on it and it seems legit. My teacher also agrees that it is the only program she has heard good things about. Also, if anyone is familiar with their courses and knows about the credit by exam offered for certain course how do you feel about those? I only need the very last two classes and they are both offered by that method. They offer study guides an practice tests, etc. I have no worries about passing them, I would just like to hear some person experiences with this college.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and reply to this in advance!

Did you speak with a nursing program advisor? That is the team that determines credit acceptance not the admissions representatives

I spoke with an admissions counselor today she was suppose to be the highest up to give me the most accurate answer.

My lpn instructor was willing to testify for me and my lawyer to on my behalf and she wouldn't even consider it.

Is this your official written evaluation based on all transcripts and the actual application?

No, they are not going to accept testimony from anyone; your lawyer's opinion really has no merit or weight. I am puzzled why you would even have a lawyer involved in this, but I am sure there is much more to the story that has no bearing on Excelsior College. As I said before and will say again, it is extremely rare (like unicorn rare) for EC to grant credit for classes taken as part of other ADN programs. But hey, at least you might get to waive one nursing exam if you received your LPN license less than 5 years ago.

I received my my LPN in July. I would have graduated ADN May 2013. Don't jump to conclusions because its not like that, believe it or not sometimes people are just downright done dirty. As was I. I have a lawyer that froze my ADN credits while so that the state of limitations would not discredit them. I'm not a nazi. Even though you sorta just made me feel like one. lol

I didn't jump to any conclusions, and I don't need to know the story, especially if there is pending litigation that might be impacted by oversharing. As a person of Jewish heritage, you kinda lost me on the "nazi" thing, not sure what you're referencing. But that's fine, I've provided some advice, so I will bow out of this conversation. :)

Good luck with whatever path you pursue.

I'm sorry, sorry, sorry! I was only kidding! Meaning you made me feel like a bad guy or a criminal. lol When I only have a lawyer that retained my ADN credits with the president of 2 year colleges in Alabama. I wanted to safe guard them that I worked so hard for. Then heartbreakingly today I find out that doesnt even matter. Sometimes I wonder if the heart ache this path brings is worth it.

Look, I am going to say this with all good intentions, so I hope you read it that way: that past baggage is going to hold you back from achieving your goals. It is weighing you down and tying you to past hurts. Let it go. Okay, you were done dirty. Are you going to rise above it or remain mired in it? It's your choice, but remember: we can't look forward if we're always looking backward.

The best revenge is success. I sincerely wish you well.

Lishlynn —

I rarely enter threads like this, but I hope I can give you some useful advice. I did EC in 2003 and it was fairly straightforward. Lots of folks from my general speciality (paramedic) have completed a nursing degree via EC and I know of many (myself included) that did so in a year or less.

EC is totally legit. NLN. All that jazz. No worries there. Really. Now, as for publishing houses that want to "sell" you study guides for EC nursing exam prep — IMHO I think they add thousands in costs and little in value. Your mileage may vary.

You seem really motivated to want to be a RN. Awesome.

I have no idea what happened in your ADN program in AL and what led to "lawyers" and this is unrelated to nursing, but once lawyers get involved few situations get easier and I've been involved in next-level litigation and while it was necessary, I prevailed, be assured that there was a lot of loss. And the currency of civil litigation is money — only money. Go repeat that last sentence to your attorney and ask him what your chances are of really prevailing. And then think about that in "big picture" terms. Like, if you get stuck and fight this AL college and don't pursue your RN - if in 3 years how much money will you need to have made it worthwhile? That is a real question.

I'm not trying to be cruel, but civil litigation will not give you a nursing degree from that AL college. And even if you could go back there and finish, do you really think you'd be anything but toxic and they would find something else to really beat you down with. I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic. And there is nothing that a court could do for you that will force any other ADN program to give you credit for that AL program's nursing classes you took. Sorry. Yeah, it sucks. Hard.

My advice. Enroll in EC (or somewhere) and don't look back. If you were close to graduating and already had plenty of GenEd and you could bust through those EC exams pretty quick, you might be able to finish pretty quick. After all you've already seen a LOT of the nursing material. Not sure if you can take an EC nursing exam without enrolling in EC now (you used to be able to take maybe the 1st one I think) and that might be a good barometer of where you stand. I found the exams (sorry, don't hate me) fairly easy. They are 150 ?'s it's not like they are going to be going into exceptional depth. It's not that unusual for the prepared and motivated to bust through ALL the exams in 3-4 months. Then be CPNE eligible and there will be time to prep for that. Don't even fret about that now.

I wish you luck. There are a lot of EC grads on here and many great threads on prep. The biggest mistake I think folks make is that they tend to get in their own way.

FYI - most folks here are amazing and helpful to boot! Pixie.RN is one of the jewels. Going forward I think it's best to avoid being too sensitive (tho I get it's a touchy issue for you) because this is, after all, a "blind" (to a degree) board so you don't really know someone's background, ethnicity, gender, disability or really much of anything. Nazi is another N word best not used.

I really hope you find what you are looking for. Moving forward feels great!

PS - true story, my (now hubby) then SO was so convinced that EC nursing program was totally bogus that he called it a "mail-order diploma" and truly was astonished when I was allowed to sit for and passed the NCLEX. He then just laughed when the state sent me my RN license. He was like that has to be the biggest bozo program in the history of nursing programs. Yeah, right. 10K (though I might have been able to do it a bit cheaper! But I spared no expense in CPNE prep) in it and it's paid for itself nearly 100x over. To this day he cannot believe that I really have a nursing degree from there. He still will laugh and tell folks I never read a book — albeit a bit more selectively now, cause one of my cousins had a rabbit-fast meltdown on him (and me) after failing out of B & M RN program. I told him it really wasn't funny. Turns out I was right all along.

No no my lawyer only saved my credits from being taking by the statue after I got sick he's not taken anything from me he hasn't been paid in years and won't be paid again he just made sure I got to keep what I earned that was all it's not like what you're thinking I'm sorry I wasn't as clear as I should have been. He was great! But he was only there for one purpose and he did that purpose.

Hello All! I've been reading treads on this site for some time now as I became an LPN and now ready to return to school for my RN. After much research and evaluating what's best for myself decided on Excelsiors Credit by exam route. I plan to start testing Jan. '16 and I've ordered the study guide 101 bundle. I'm so excited and motivated to tackle this program and earn my RN. I would love to hear from other current and recent graduates of EC for advice and input. How often did you take exams? What was your study routines to pass? I appreciate your thoughts and if you recently graduated and passed, CONGRATS!!!

They did not accept my previous ADN credits either. Yet, I feel that having had those classes will help me in taking the classes via Excelsior. I need to take and pass my A&P exam this week and then go into the nursing classes. While I don't like having to retake all that, I am doing it as the goal for me has been my RN. Things got in the way for me and I got my LPN. Now it is time to get the RN and I won't look back, just go forward.
