Excelsior Online Program

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

I am curious if anyone has any info or has attended this program themselves, or knows anyone who has. I've done quite a bit of research on it and it seems legit. My teacher also agrees that it is the only program she has heard good things about. Also, if anyone is familiar with their courses and knows about the credit by exam offered for certain course how do you feel about those? I only need the very last two classes and they are both offered by that method. They offer study guides an practice tests, etc. I have no worries about passing them, I would just like to hear some person experiences with this college.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and reply to this in advance!

I have made application directly to Excelsior and am waiting for transcripts to be sent and evaluated. I had read somewhere it is better to go through EC directly than the college network. I have a lot of ADN credits already so will see what, if any, of those they accept.

I am in the exact situation as you. How old are your ADN credits? Mine will be 3 years this spring so I'm not worried about them. They should all be accepted. I am concerned about the location of the big clinical test though. I can either go to New York or Atlanta. Neither is anywhere close to me. I expressed my concerns but hey I'm not complaining if thats what I gotta do then thats what I gotta do.

How did you finish in a year? Like how did you plan your test?

I was referring to the LPN program being one year. Is that what you are talking about?

There are also sites in Texas and Pennsylvania. Many students fly for their CPNE weekend. You can see the entire list here: Excelsior College | Finding a Test Site

There is a new site that just opened in Alice, TX that is not listed on the site yet.

I told one of my best friends I guess I will just have to make a week out of it, haha. I've always begged to go to New York now I have a legitimate reason. I'm not quite sure what a Tennessee girl would do with herself there but it sounds like a once in a lifetime experience. Did you take your CPNE with Excelsior? I'm just curious. People seem to really freak out over it, but clinicals are my best. I am completely in my element and comfortable so I'm not worried.

Yes, I am an Excelsior grad. I took my CPNE in 2008. The stress comes not so much from the clinical contents of the CPNE, but more from the magnitude of the exam as a whole.

I completely understand what you are saying! The grading critique is very critical! I am sure when it gets time to perform I will be a nervous wreck, just the feeling of knowing someone is watching my every move and judging it is so intimidating! Thats something I will never overcome. But I'm glad to hear from someone that has experienced it. Where did you take yours at? How were the nurses and staff? Did they make you feel comfortable?

Mine are about the same as yours. Will let you know what I find out when they let me know.

Well I hate to be the one to inform you but I just got off the phone with them this afternoon and I was very upset. It turns out every single admissions person I had talked to until now had lied to me. None of the nursing credits will transfer, no matter how relevant they are. She said because they are not an "end degree" program. None of it counts, only most of your basic will count. You have to start the ADN from scratch.

That is what I tried to tell you in my post from September 8. They are liberal with general ed, but not nursing courses. This is very common among nursing schools, and not just EC.

Sorry you had higher hopes that didn't work out. Your choice now is to either push on, or go elsewhere. I experienced something similar in transferring graduate credits from one school's MSN to another. I was sooooo mad! But I pushed on and went forward, and I am glad I did; otherwise I wouldn't be done with core courses and on my third course for an FNP program right now.

Regarding my CPNE experience, it was at a test site that closed a few years ago. The EC examiners were professional and fair.

It's extremely rare that any accredited nursing program accepts nursing course credits in transfer. The LPN to ASN program gives credit for the license not the coursework. Same for most RN to BSN programs credit for completing the RN program and becoming a licensed RN not for the nursing classes. I'm sorry you were told otherwise prior to your credentials evaluation.

I know I thought I understood what you meant but they also told me they'd take my adn credit on too of my LPN license today is the sixth representative I spoke today and the only one who didn't tell me that lie that they would all transfer. I felt awful for crying cause I she was tearing up and apologizing I assured her it was not her fault she was the only one who was honest with me. In so sick of people trying to make a buck off of people with good intentions...they can't argue it's because of clinical experience because I completed and lpn program and have my diploma and I was almost done with my Adn and they tell me I'm not qualified clinically when I actually have over double what any of the applicants have
