Published

I am new to this site and I am tring to find out if there are any Excelsior college graduates that can give me some information about the program based on their experience.

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

rumors rumors rumors...blah blah blah..the truth is the texas bon is reviewing the ec curriculum... however, this is nothing new... it seems that because of other states changing some of their ec grad rules texas feels they need to review theirs.... they have already had several meetings about this and haven't changed anything yet...

no out of state college is texas accredited because texas only regulates programs in the state....

texas is full of ec grads that are working left and right...most employers only care that you have a license to practice nursing they could care less where you went to school...

stay clear of the college network

thank you all for your post regarding the excelsior clinical test. i have been trying to figure out what to do? i know many great nurses who failed that test, so i havent enrolled in the program. then theres the san angelo option ( i live in texas), but i think you have to go through tcn to do that program. i talked to someone from the college network and he told me that excelsior is not texas accrediated just recognized. then i hear about hospitails not hiring excelsior graduates. then i have heard texas bon is going to stop accepting the excelsior grads.

my head is spinning????

Specializes in E.R., post-surgical.
I understand why it could be reasoned the clinicals needed to be as difficult as they are for credibility purposes, but truthfully, it did not make me a better nurse. In fact, I felt like it took ten years off my life. When they handed me the congratulations sheet, I was just numb.

I am a graduate nurse from EC. I just finished the clinicals last month. Nothing was hard at all. Was I nervous because I paid $1900 and could be sent home with nothing if I didn't follow their game plan? Hell yeah. You just had to do it their way. But that was spelled out to you in the study guide. It was just very basic patient assessment, and very basic nursing techniques. If you want to be in control of your education and do things on your own terms then EC is for you. If you are self motivated then it is very doable. If you don't want to spend countless hours on very pointless nursing care plans, then go for it. But know there is no financial aid. You are on your own unless you qualify for one of the loans (not stafford, but private lenders).

Thank You! You seem to know alot about this topic. I am so thankful that we have this sight and people like you to help us. Heres the story, I will give you the short version. I have been through RN school done all the clinicals but I didnt pass Exit HESI, so I didnt Graduate as an RN. I got my LVN. I just did not want to bring that topic up again, I have accepted it. I really dont want to go back to on campus classes because I have put my family through enough. I am working now as an LVN and proud to be one, I just hate to waste all my hours. I am a very focused person and do well with self study, I just want to research my options. It would suck to invest the time and money and Texas decide not to take EC. Thank you! for all your help. I guess I just need to call state board.
