I am new to this site and I am tring to find out if there are any Excelsior college graduates that can give me some information about the program based on their experience.

Specializes in Critical Care, Acute Dialysis.

There are a ton on the distance learning forum.....Give them try they are a wealth of information:D

Try doing a search in the allnurses search box with the word Excelsior--lots of info if you just look! There is also a special forum on distance learning...go up to students and click on it!

I'm an Excelsior ADN graduate. The clinicals are harder than they need to be. If you have the chance, go to an on-site school.

I am also an Excelsior graduaute and found the clinicals to be as hard as they should be for the school to be credible.

You do NOT NEED The ollege Network or Chancellors. DO NOT sign with them.

Depending on your state Excelsior might not be the right choice.

And good luck! I loved it.

Specializes in LTC, case mgmt, agency.

I agree. Don't sign on with any third party. Go straight through Excelsior.

Do look into whether or not Excelsior is accepted by your state. Plenty of info in The Distance learning Forum.

Specializes in LTC, Hospice, Case Management.

I personally don't agree with this. I found them to be perfectly reasonable and was fortunate to have very professional staff (can't remember their official title during the exam).

What I've heard a lot: Studies are fine. Clinicals are Hell on earth

I understand why it could be reasoned the clinicals needed to be as difficult as they are for credibility purposes, but truthfully, it did not make me a better nurse. In fact, I felt like it took ten years off my life. When they handed me the congratulations sheet, I was just numb.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Moved to the distant learning forum

Specializes in Psych, LTC, Acute Care.

Its a great program! I, like many had an impossible time trying to get into a traditional nursing program in my area. The supply exceeded the demand and I got tired of the academic counselors lying to me telling me I had a chance to get in and then turn right back around and tell me that I am competing with 950 other people for 65 slots. Excelsior College gave me the opportunity to fullfill my dream of becoming an RN. Like others said. Go directly throught the school. Make sure your state accepts them and be committed to the program. Ebay has some resources for notes and books that are recommended to pass the test. Pay the extra $65 for the practice test. They are worth it. If you have anymore questions, feel free to post here.We will answer any specific questions you have a be cheerleaders and root you on.

I disagree. This is the exact opposite of my experience. I feel it did make me a better nurse, and I was a LPN with quite a bit of acute care experience.
