excelsior grads: how excelsior clinicals work?

hi.i am a newly graduated lpn.i am interested in excelsior's lpn-rn program.how do clinicals work?.i heard i have to find my own instructor for my clinicals. i live here in michigan.do i have to find a different instructor for each class?? one teacher for OB and another for pediatrics? WHERE can i find a clinical instructor here in michigan who can teach me all classes,OB,Peds,MEd Surg and where can i find a clinical site that would let me practice on their patients? Does Excelsior give me a list of instructors and clinical sites to choose from?

Do I have to pay my clinical instructor too,separate from my Excelsior fees?IF any Excelsior grad could please enlighten me how Excelsior clinicals work.Thank you.

i think you have been given some misleading information ....excelsior does not have clinicals rather it is a two and a half day evaluation of your skills...there is no instruction from the evaluators, you come in perform specific task assigned to you( for each patient care scenario ) and it is either pass or fail. ..you may want to do some research on this program because it is home study and rarely interaction with teachers....

Excelsior is an evaluative and not a teaching program. There are no "clinical" classes as there are no "theory" classes. Excelsior tests the students on these subjects. The clinical evaluation consists of a two and one half day testing situation done at one of several testing sites in a hospital setting, mostly in the eastern, northern, or southern areas of the country. There are four lab stations where one demonstrates the ability to do an IV push medication, IV medication administration, IM/SC medication, and sterile wound dressing change. Then, one must pass two out of three possible adult, and one out of two possible pediatric patient care scenarios in the hospital with actual patients. All of these tasks are done according to standards in order to be successful. The clinical exam takes place at the end of the program after one has passed all of the nursing theory exams and most of the general education requirements.

The Excelsior program does not have traditional clinical classes. There is a final test of your clinical competency at the end of the program called the CPNE. Please take a a look at the distance learning forum here on the site for more information on the Excelsior program.

The Excelsior program is completely distance-based and competency-based, which means that you will be teaching various concepts to yourself.

You do not have to attend clinical rotations while completing Excelsior's program, which is why several states have restrictions on Excelsior RNs. The clinical component is called the CPNE (Clinical Performance in Nursing Examination), which lasts for one weekend and is an overall assessment of your nursing skills. You must travel to a test site that offers the CPNE unless you already live in a city where it is offered.
