Hello, everyone. This is my first time adding a topic to the site. I would like to know if any of you (or anyone you know) has ever taken the CPNE from Excelsior while NOT working as an LPN. And if so, how did you (they) go about practicing? Thanks. Also, any comments on Sheri Taylor workshop? I dont live in the area, so I would be paying a small fortune, but will do it if it's worth it. TIA!!
It has often been put forth that more experienced people have more difficulties with the CPNE because they have to unlearn bad habits.
^^^^^^^THIS!!!!!! The CPNE absolutely MUST be done the EC way. After all, it is THEIR test! As a former LPN, it is so easy to veer off-course if the patient requests the least little thing. The desire to help the patient does NOT stop that clock from ticking. Stick to what's assigned to you (difficult for practicing LPNs), and if you're interrupted by an unexpected request, call for his/her nurse, and excuse yourself until his/her needs have been met....UNLESS, the CE directs you otherwise. In this case, the CE should stop the clock (allow you the extra minutes) for this and any other unexpected interruption.
I passed the the cpne on my first attempt; however I did fail my first PCS over a carton of milk...my mistake by not including it on the intake section.
So, when the time comes, practice, practice, PRACTICE those critical elements; reheorifice your introductions and conversations with your patients; know your mnemonics, and you will do well!
@CKPM2RN Congratulations. How long was your wait time for cpne test date?
Sorry for taking so long to answer. I completed my paperwork and was put on "the list" July of 2015, my test was May 20, 2016. I did call for cancellations a few times but never put much heart into it, I was given that date in early January of 2016.
