I have heard good things from several paramedic friends that completed RN there. Expensive though.

You might want to check with your state board to see whether they accept E.C. degree. You might have a hard time getting licensed.

I got a BSN there in 1982 so don't know what it's like today. It was perfect for me at the time.

Yes check your state BON. I went through them, while it's not any easier than a traditional college it was great not having to sit in a boring classroom. Check out distance learning in the students forum, there's a ton of info relating to EC.

It is not a scam, nor is it even that expensive, as long as you don't use a third-party publisher like the College Network. Contact the college and read the website: http://www.excelsior.edu. The classes aren't actually online, but it is distance learning.
The pass rate for the CPNE for 2007 was 59%. You should also ensure that the state where you live accepts EC, because some states don't recognize it because of the lack of concurrent clinicals: https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_College/School_Of_Nursing/Accreditation_and_Licensure/State_Board_Requirements

no scam. Just check with excelsior's state board advisors to see about your state's requirements.
I am an excelsior graduate.

i am loving excelsior! it does take a greater amount of self discipline, as the tests are done at your own pace. and for me, the cost was very comparable to the local community college. there are some large up front costs, the enrollment fee is $895, but there is a payment plan available. you study hard, take the exam for the class and don't have to go to the classroom and listen to a teacher drone on and on just to go home and teach yourself the material! as for the pass rate for cpne, (i think it's about 65% right now) it is a very difficult 2 1/2 day pass/fail process. if you study the material and can handle stress well, you should be find. many of the people fail for what seems to be their nerves getting the better of them--not identifying the patient correctly, hand washing--things that we do every day when the pressure isn't so great. surf the stickies here, ask questions, the board here is awesome at getting you going in the right direction! good luck!

Definetly not a scam! I am a real RN with a real license, working in a big hospital. I graduated from EC, Feb 2009. Worked great for me and several other EC grads here on this board. Do your homework and see if your state accepts EC. Also this program is not for everyone. If you lack discipline and need a classroom setting, this program is not for you. Most people who say its a scam are the ones who fail the CPNE and become bitter and bad mouth the school for their failure. I have a friend right now who has failed the CPNEx 2 and tells everyone its a money racket. She fails because she does abide by the CPNE critical elements.
As far as the cost. I paid about $7500. Thats not including the travel expenses for the CPNE. IMO, thats very reasonable. If you go to Community College its probably cheaper but you will lose more because you can't work full time. I worked full time and did the EC program. It was worth every penny!
