Hi guys

This is the first time I have ever posted on this site but I have also only had by LVN license for one month. My mother in law is also an LVN and has been for around thirty years. I have recently convinced her to complete the LVN to RN transition with me. I told her she has gotten paid LVN pay to do RN work for to long. No offense but she works her butt off. We live about three hours apart and both work full time. Due to this we have decided to do this through EC. I was telling her that I was going to get all of the advised text books and read and study. She says she just wants to study the outlines and study guides. I told her with her experience she might be able to pull this off but as for me I really want to study and do well if for nothing more for myself and my own peace of mind. However, when I started checking on the prices for all the text EC recommends I began panicking due to all of the money I just spent in LVN school. Any suggestions on how to study and does anyone have any of these books they want to get rid of.

Thank you, KiyasMom and congratulations. I'm aware that I'll have to actually enroll before I can take NC 3-6 and I'll definitely do that. I'm just delaying enrollment because as of now I'm still an LPN student but I want to take the pre-reqs...A&P, micro, etc. I will definitely look into possibly having NC 1 waived once I've completed my program...September '06 ...I'm so excited :).

P.S...which NCLEX-RN book would you recommend? I have Saunder's for the NCLEX-PN but I've found that Mosby's is better.

Congrats on your upcoming graduation. I remember the excitement and anticipation of graduation all to well. Savor that feeling, 'cause before long nursing school will be a distant memory. Anyhow, back on topic, Mosby's Comprehensive is one that is recommended often. Right now I am using an RN level Med Surg book I was given, but I have also referenced my Mosby's NCLEX-PN book for some things. I have found Lisa's Notes to be quite helpful as well. You can find those in the yahoo groups. I will get Mosby's Comprehensive later on. I was also told NCLEX RN Made Incredibly Easy would be a good resource. I have the PN version and I love it. It is chock full of great information (hint, hint for your NCLEX-PN) and I will definitely get the RN version to help with EC. Keep in touch, and good luck.

You have to enroll with Excelsior in order to take the CPNE and NC3, NC4, NC5, NC6, and Foundations of Professonal Practice. You are wise to choose not to go through The College Network. If I were you I'd check out ebay, many people(students) sell awesome study guides. The info is outlined, detailed and really all you need. Make sure you purchase from an actual student.:yeah:

I purchased really nice study guides for less than 8 bucks.

Where Did You Get Those At?

hello

I will be taking my first ec exam im scared to death!!! Has anyone taken the Microbiology exam????

Also, you may be able to waive NC1 with your LPN course information, .:clown:

I was able to waive NC 2 with my LPN education. I have to take NC 1

I advised my friend who is also doing LPN to RN with excelsior, to check eBay. You can get the CDs with all the study guides for alot less than purchasing the books. Check out ebay!

i also checked out some of the recommended textbooks from the library

Hi - I'm new here too.

From what I have been able to find out (and trust me I've been digging) is that the difference in cost between rue guides and EC is very close - EC themselves told me that to do lpn to RN complete program will cost between 9-10 thousand dollars. Rue complete is 12 (this includes EC) . Be sure you thouroughly check them out - they are not the same. Rue is added materials (study guides and they provide books) with EC you just get free study guides (or outlines) and you buy your own books.

You can buy stuff through ebay if you are lucy enough to find what you need when you need it.

Nope...go ahead and plan on taking it.

I'm using Excelsior and have aced Nursing Concepts 1-5. Didn't buy all the books, joined yahoo study groups, downloaded files and received/shared post test info from fellow students. Very doable. You ;c;an take NC1 and 2 bbefore actually enrolling. I work with 3 RNS from Excelsior. Good Luck.
