i recently started excelsior lpn to rn course. i have passed health and safety three weeks ago. but i find my self needing encouragement to continue. i know that i can be productive in nursing and i love it to the fullest. have been a lpn for 10 years. i had to get another job so i went back to work at a nursing home, that is, coming from a hospital. when the census go down in my little town, you can be out of work for three weeks like i have. so a girl must do what she has to do to pay for her education. but i find myself dragging to study, then question myself, "what is the point." please someone tell me this is a phase and it will all pass. i do believe that there is someone out there that have surpassed this and care to share a few words to lift a lpn traveling to rn.

think of this name: naschekarn :D

don't worry this phase is normal. this too shall pass.

i used to practice my future rn signature and keep signing on a piece of paper like adragon,rn, adragon,rn, adragon,rn, angeld,rn, adragon,rn, angel dragon,rn etc...of course i was using my real name.

search this forum for when people posted that they passed certain exams. read only the positive posts. you can also check the nclex forum and read the post where people posted that they passed the nclex-rn. then tell yourself "i can do this! i can pass these exams as well and will pass the nclex-rn too!"

think of how good it felt when you got a passed on health and safety. keep going and before you know it, you will be a registered nurse.

good luck!

Thank you for this inspirational speech. It really did help me. I feel so much differently today about my future than yesterday. I do believe that I can go forward. Can't wait until I sign the RN to my signature. Thanks.

i know exactly what you're saying. it took everything in me just to study for the transitions exam. i didnt wanna do it i didnt care about it, blah blah, blah...but i took the exam and passed it. this motivated me even more now to study for the next exam. believe me i've said "what is the point" many times. even when i was in lpn school i felt this way when it got tough. you are not alone in this and we all can help each other thru.

go, go, go

Never give up! There is no reward for giving up on your dreams! You can and will do this! The point is that you want to do better for yourself and get that RN, open that door to possibilities! There is nothing wrong with being a great LPN, but there is also nothing wrong with being a great RN either. If you love what you do - GO FOR IT!

I'll give you another perspective. Right now I hate where I work, its getting worse week by week. Administration or lack of, is making it an unsafe place to work. But as an LPN with only 1 year experience, my options are a little limited. This is what is fueling me to get done ASAP and get out of there. I'm 4 exams in with 4 to go before FCCA/CPNE. My next exam is scheduled for next week and I'm sticking with an every 2 week timeline till I'm done. I'm going to take 2 months to prepare for the CPNE and take those 2 months off from work with my accumulated vacation time, because I have been banking it since I started. I dread going to work! Its awful! I am just counting my days till I finish and get away from there because its taking me twice as long to do my job the right way, even though administration prefers I use their cost effective methods, however, its my license and my life, they can just get over it! Sorry - a little vent, but I worked last night.

Just keep at it and ask for motivation here whenever you need it!

Hang in there. You are so close to the finish line that you can just jump across for that TITLE. I am so glad that there is someone out there that can relate to my experience. That is my same problem. That is why I needed the big encouragement. I had to fall back at an old job that I really dreaded. Believe me, I cringed to go back. I cried knowing that I had to return, but the census at the hospital went down so I have not been working. But I am going to hang in there just until I get my RN. Now I study much harder and looking forward to take my exam a little quicker so I can leave that job as soon as possible. I have only taken Health and Safety exam. But soon I am going to take Transitions to RN. Everyday I way my options before walking in: RN or LPN. I choose RN, that is what make me get out of the car.

Whatever works, do it! I moved up my Repro exam to this Friday due to a bad night at work the other day. I'm studying hard this week though. I just want to get it done and I'm trying to work on my resume also so that WHEN I pass my nclex-rn, I can turn in my notice and get out of there. Just keep going, we can do this!

You can do it!! I'm taking A&P 2 and Transitions now :D

I have been a LPN for 20+ years and I'm tired of the nursing homes and home health gigs. My goal is management. But, unfortunately, everyone wants RNs. You can do this. I have to make myself do the reading and the testing but in the end I know it will be worth it. YOU CAN DO THIS! Believe.
