Regarding Excelsior college RN grads being able to sit for certain state boards, if I get the LVN-RN through Excelsior but get my BSN through chamberlain.edu or another program does this help. I assume the State board of nursing will only need to know about the BSN or do they want proof of RN clinical hours for example? Thanks for your input.
I have heard that California & Maryland are now the ONLY states unwilling to accept EC for licensure. I had the pleasure of speaking to EC and they informed me of this.
However, I was also informed that many California grads finished up at Excelsior, worked in another state for a year, and applied/were accepted in California later on- due to the fact that they now had that clinical experience. That seems believable. Either way, I'm not worried about 2 states. There are 48 other states in this great country.

And to think these two states accepted Excelsior grads when the nursing program first started many years ago. Back then it was a different two states that refused to acknowledge EC. Always a fly in the ointment somewhere.

And there's no guarantee that additional states won't put additional restrictions on acceptance of EC grads in the future -- that seems to be the trend currently.

That's the trend? They just added 2 more states to their lists that accept Excelsior College grads without any problems. All 48 states, with the exception of those 2, accept Excelsior College graduates without any problems.
From my observation, things are looking up. Any smart state would accept EC grads.
I don't think EC grads are asking for special treatment. However, it would be nice if California gave options for those who graduated from there. Why does it have to be impossible to work there as an RN? There are plenty of excellent nurses who graduated from Excelsior College. Everyone knows that there's NOTHING easy about their program and I'm sure graduates would complete additional clinical hours and provide proof to the CA BON in order to get their license in that state. So what gives? You take the foreigners but not your own kind? GEEZ.

According to some of the foreigners that I've spoken to who have had clinical rotations, some of them stated that they didn't feel they had a great clinical experience. Having 10 (from some schools that was at best) student nurses to one patient I wouldn't consider adequte clinical experience, but yet CA accepts that. .
Believe me I've asked CA to shed some light on that one and their excuse is "well according to their transcripts they have clinical experience yadda yadda yadda". That's something hard to believe. As a LVN/LPN you have a lot of clinical experience. If we can only get some sort of petition to have CA reconsider and maybe work with Excelsior in developping a clinical component like other states have. Or if they would allow CA students to go to those states to obtain the clinical hours would be another option too.
If there are any Excelsior grads who enrolled after the cut off date and were able to get licensed in CA please share your experience.
The CA board will NOT license you as an RN if you went to Excelsior.
This is not true that Excelsior college grads will not be licensed in California if you are grandfathered. I joined Excelsior college used to be Regents in 2003 and kept my dues current and plowed through the tests, with all the changes and then California board of nursing not allowing new enrollment now. But I took NCLEX-RN July 31st and passed. I have a RN licenses. I have had some challenges like St. Bernardines in San Bernardino said they don't hire Excelsior graduates. Sounds very predujice but too many hospitals in this state. The problem is now no new graduate programs like they use to have all over.
So just waiting out the economy. If you graduate from Excelsior you are a very hard working student and it wasn't easy, and regarding the clinical. It is show what you know and if you pass that CPNE clinical for 3 days, you can kick any test, orally or written.

Thank you for the detailed clarification. I understand and can now get this thought out of my head.
