Integrated Science Program in Whittier Ca
When you call the school to verify if they accept the course from ISP, you have to make sure to speak with someone in the counseling department. Alot of times they will say they don't accept the course but in reality they do. My friend works in the counseling department at Riverside Community college as a student advisor and highly recommended for me to take the course, so as far as I know ISP is accepted by majority of CC's. I think it's really strange that you mentioned @ CSUF they accept A&P and Micro but not Chem, hmm I wonder why that is. Either way, I never got into Micro at my local CC's after 3 semesters! As much as I pushed to get in (wait list, sitting in class, talking to instructor etc.) I'm so glad I found ISP as my alternative. Yes it was approx 2000$ but time is money!! I'm no longer waiting to get into Micro instead i'm currently waiting to get into an RN program at my local CC.

Any Excelsior Graduates Endorse Into CA Successfully
I too have looked extensively into this issue and would love to know if anyone out there has successfully endorsed into California as an Excelsior graduate. I will be enrolling in Excelsior's program very shortly. I live in so.cal but moving from NY to Florida w/in the next couple years and would hate to waste precious school time during my travels. Hoping i can obtain a License through Excelsior and work as an RN in whatever state im in that accepts Excelsior grads, as oppose to wrkn as an LVN/LPN and making LVN/LPN wage. But unfortunately I can almost be certain California wont budge on its decision about Excelsior. In Ca.BON website it CLEARLY states one of the criteria in order to endorse into the state of California, "including supervised clinical practice concurrent with theory"! scroll down to thee section that says "Decesions regarding Excelsior" http://www.rn.ca.gov/whatsnew.shtml

Would you work as a CNA or LVN if you could not find work as an RN?
Not sure what state you live in but here a Cali a few RN grads i've spoken to were succesful in landing jobs in facilities such as Convalescent hospitals and SNF's NOT as LVN's or CNA's but as RN's, yeah they might not pay as much as hospitals but its def a start. Good LUCK

Cost of LVN school in California
I totally understand your concern. You'd rather pay than wait, there are plenty of ppl who feel the same way you do. I know I did at 1 point, I too was going to attend a vocational school here in southern cali back in 2005 when the cost for private colleges at that time was abt 20-22000. Luckily i was accepted into the LVN program at the local Community college costing me a tiny fraction of the price. BUT to keep things completely honest with you, LVN's do not i repeat DO NOT make enough money to maintain a decent/stable living status in southern Cali. I know far too many LVN's who can barely make ends meet. 34,000 is steep price to pay back but if your going to feel better by getting your LVN as a step up towards your goal as an RN then go for it. The way i see it TIME=MONEY. The more time you take the more money your lose.

California Excelsior students
thank u for the feedback , yes ive done extensive research here on Allnurses and several other websites regarding the CPNE , one person was kind enough to describe her experience in CLEAR detail and step by step and its all to familiar to me considering i went through a tough LVN program @Chaffey CC here in So.Cal. what ive also noticed is that the people who have wrkd as a LVN prior to taking the CPNE have a much higher success rate in passing it. and BELIEVE me im clearly aware that i WILL NOT be able to work in California, the RN BON website clearly states they require the nursing student to do clinical rotations CONCURRENTLY w/ lecture. Also, at this point im not to worried about cost because the way i see it time=money, im losing more money every year that i am NOT wrkn as an RN, LVN pay is decent but id def like to double my income. on another note Conqueror, is it safe to assume you have experience with Excelsior?

California Excelsior students
Hi Caliotter, well to be honest with you i did'nt do much homework regarding ISU and WGU mainly due to the fact that they are BSN programs, im looking into furthering my career in nursing one step at a time. Went from CNA (2yrs) LVN (5yrs) trying to get ADN then eventually work my way to a BSN then hopefully Master (NP). I suppose i should keep my options open regarding WGU and ISU. So far from what ive heard is WGU requires you to have a degree prior to applying? Ive also heard some students are not guaranteed a spot at clinical sites which in turn elongates the process of reaching your goal (RN). I also noticed that in order to apply and obtain BSN you must have completed another science class (biochemistry , i think) so would i be able to take that class concurrently considering the fact i have everything else done? I guess it wouldnt hurt to look into this a bit further. You also mentioned that i shouldnt "venture into a complicated relationship with EC" can you please elaborate?

California Excelsior students
I currently reside in California LVN since 2005, i have opted to enroll in Excelsior college. i am fully aware of CA.BON's beef w/ Excelsior. CC's in Ca are soooo impacted wait list range anywhere from 1-3 yrs. For this reason i am willing to relocate. i just completed the last of my pre-reqs (microbiology), i will put in my application for several colleges including SBVC, VVC, and Mt.Sac. i have no hopes of getting into program soon, for the reality of it is there are hundreds of people applying and only a limited number of slots. i was told by various people that there is a possibilty of endorsmanship to California after completing 1000 hours as an RN in another state, not sure how much truth there is to that statement, but 1 can only hope for Ca to reconsider. Thanks to Excelsior there is still hope even it is in another state where Excelsior is accepted. i would like to know if there are any CA Excelsior students out there that share the same/simliar thoughts as me? id love to hear from you and your experiences.

my experience with ISP has been very well worth it ! Im taking my final for microbiolgy this wednesday. The instructors are very very helpful (they want you to do well and pass). The course is NOT easy and if you cant set aside at least 2-3 hours study time mon-frid then this is NOT for you. Labs are sat and sun from abt 830-11 (or so) lecture from 130 to about 430. this all depends on your instructors and how fast you get your lab done. i paid 2000 for the class , but well worth it!! had i known about this sooner i would have gladly taken A&P, I got those done at a CC.
