i am second semester, taking ob, mental health, and med surg. satrt lecture tomorrow, have clinical orientation thurs and fri, and am on the ob floor on monday! feeling kinda :barf01: ...
i am so excited tho--i want to be an ob nurse so this is my semester to shine! gl to all!!
I started today. We went over the syllabus and the director of nursing explained how the program is set up, which books to bring on which days, how to know what to read for each lecture, when quizzes and tests will be given and how they are formatted, etc.
I came home feeling a little overwhelmed but have managed to read 4 chapters since then, so my outlook is much improved tonight.
Hey All,
I start my first nursing class on wed!!!! I'm so excited but freakin nervous I tell ya! Tomorrow we have a college of nursing picnic. I guess they want us to meet the staff, professors & seniors. I'm nervous about that too (social situations can make my tummy turn in knots sometimes). But hey, at least I get free food!!!
I'm taking health assessment, clinical processes & concepts, pathophysio & pharmacology, & processes of professional nursing this semester! Fo real tho, I'm more excited than anything else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yelclap:
My first ever nursing class is in exactly 9 hours yet I'm still sitting here on allnurses trying to gain some confidence from reading everybody else's first day experiences. That and my fiance kicked me out of the living room because I was driving him crazy while he was trying to watch football. At least you guys understand what I am going through. I'm just so stinking excited to actually start a nursing class (as apposed to the million bs pre-reqs) that I can't contain myself. I'm wishing everyone the best first day possible. Let's keep each other posted. Talk to y'all later.
This website is the only thing that calms me down. When I start feeling overwhelmed I come here to see what the rest of you are thinking, and things become more realistic again. I am SO glad I found this resource.
We can do this. We will do this. Let's stick together, we're all in the same boat, let's take this a few days at a time. Let's not let anything or anyone stand in the way of our goals. It's our turn!!!! :w00t:
Yesterday was my first day of classes and I was very overwhelming Soooooooooo much info in one day I had a headache when I got home My books were a killer so far I have spent over $900 and I hope not to spend any more If it was not for finanical aid I am not sure what I would do The teachers have posted all of our powerpoints and there is no free printing on campus(printing on campus $.10 per page) & I have no ink in my printer so u know that can be very expensive but I am feeling better today so wish me luck and I wish everyone else the best of luck this semester
Today is my second day of 4th semester in ADN program. I have psych, peds and med surge this semester. Today was used up by going over to the hospital and watching OSHA & such videos. I've seen all six of them 4 times now, so I get it already. Clinicals are two days a week this semester. I feel like everything I've learned so far leaked out in the 3 week break we took. I love school, but I am having anxiety dreams every night now. I want to be a great nurse, not just an adequate nurse. I don't want to be the student who becomes an urban legend by messing up so badly that she gets thrown out of the program. I don't want to be the student who can't remember the actions of each of the 36 meds her patient is taking that morning. You get the picture. Best wishes to everyone starting out. Hang in there and support your fellow nursing students!
We just started back today FT.
It's Med/Surg 1. We have 2 more lectures and then an exam. I was like holy crap LOL!
It will be on F+E/Acid Base/ and Endocrine.
A lot of it is recall memory from A+P but of course the questions are those lovely NCLEX questions:).
It's going to be a LONG but SHORT 7 weeks!

I started back today. This semester I have:
Nursing II - lecture, lab and clincals
Pharm II - lecture and lab
Childbearing Family - lecture and clincals/labs
Mental Health - lecture and lab
Developmental Psychology - online but the teacher looks to be very persnickity and demanding/anal.....fun wow....
They've started us off with a bang. Already homework, drug cards to be made and memorized by Friday, pharm stuff, reading, and a paper due in two days for dev psych.
and clinicals already starting Thursday which kind of shocked us all!
I feel like making a paper chain with the number of days I have left (lots) and hanging it from my ceiling - just to get the satisfaction of tearing another one off each evening.
We have a few new-to-teaching instructors this year - not sure how thats all gonna go....
ETA: OH! A piece of good news! They lowered our grading scale standards. Now all we have to get for an A is a 90%
Which is much easier than a 95% they required last semester.
I missed all "A's" by a teeny-tiny bit last semester and sooo wish this was a retroactive thing! LOL But I'm pleased its changed for this semester.
