Everest College Ontario RN program

Published

Hello all,

I know there are already a couple of posts for this school, but reading through the threads I didn't get all the information that I was looking for and considering that they are pretty old threads I made a new one because I didn't think anyone would look at those anymore. I've already completed all my prereqs at a community college, but I don't want to wait around forever to get into the community college rn program.

Anyways, I wanted to find out for those who are already in the program or have the info. What kind of studying should I do for their entrance exam? What kind of stuff comes in the tests. I also would like to know the cost or estimated cost of the school. And how do they go about choosing the students for the program? What exactly is the application process?

I've already called the school, but the lady that answered the phone wasn't able to give me much info except for that info sessions are in August and the program starts up again in January.

And if you are already in the program, I would like to know how to do you find the teachers to be?? Would you say that this is a good academic choice??

Please help me as I live really far away from this school and I am moving out there just for the program. It is a little difficult for me to just drive over to visit the school. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I called them today and let them know I was going to be unable to do it. After much thought and looking at how much money I would need to survive being over there on my own, plus having to pay the school. It was too much. I'm gonna have to try doing the junior college, and try saving up money at the same time just in case it still doesn't happen for me in the jc. I'm sooooo bummed, because I would have been starting my nursing education already :(

however, in the end I feel extremely lucky and proud of myself that I made it all the way from 1000 students to one of the 40. I need to speak with the nursing department and see what would I have to do if I want to give it another get go at their school.

:( Wesley, speak to the reps and request that you be on their rollover list (I think you automatically are). If you came this close from making it, I'm sure you can apply and will be receive the pass for the next cohort as well. In the mean time save up that cash to afford the tuition! It's such a bummer to see that a small amount of money is the reason that's stopping you from chasing your future in nursing.

Hi, I'm new. Going to f.a.@ 5:30...2nd appointment with them.

oh wow im sorry to hear this. yes its very tough to come up with such a large amount of money and its so tough to get a personal loan. im in a very similar boat. i have zero financial help from my parents and also a $4000 cash plan with $355/month payments that im gonna have to make to the school. i regret not getting more prereqs done at the jc where my classes are free for me. im not exactly sure where the $$s gonna come from but i have faith that its gonna work out someway, somehow :)

you've come so far and obviously youre quite intelligent and nursing is what ur made for. its def. worth a shot to be put on rollover and save some $$$ in the meantime. whatever your decision and path to r.n. you ultimately decide on i wish you the best of luck!!

I am in the same boat, I can't get a pell grant because I have a degree already. My out of pocket is $11,000. I think I am going to use my tax return plus take out of my husband's 401k. I am going for my second appointment tommorrow. We'll see if there are any spots left then, if its meant to be. I qualify for free schooling at the JC, but who knows how long the wait will be?

ya i feel for you. down at my jc my classes are completely free minus the books n health fees so its soooo much cheaper. but to get into their rn program would put me back about 7-8 years. its a trade off of money vs time. but time is money. and the jc rn programs have other costs which i estimate to be about ten grand. this is based on doing the rda program there and even with tuition fully covered there was all sorts of program fees and materials fees and all the books total still came out to a couple grand outta pocket in the end and the rda program is a lot shorter and less intense than r.n. so my figures are only a guess.

in the end i've came to the conclusion that being an r.n. is my dream and i didnt think probability speaking i had a chance of getting in to a program of 40 with 1200 people trying too. so i feel blessed and ready to be broke while in school. and knowing that at my next "repack" it will be cheaper for me monthly because of the lighter unit load.

Went to my appointment for f/a today. It went well. I'm also planning to be broke and fulfilling my dream of becoming a nurse. I started this whole process with Everest in July 2008. I was not able to get into the July class, it was to close to the start time. So I scheduled the Compass, took it, passed. Same with the PSB. Had my interview & was told right then & there that I was a candidate for the class and to listen out for a call to make an appointment for financial aid. That's where the stop sign hit me! My debt ratio was (& still is) too high for a personal loan. They said wait till after the new year and see...Jan came and went. I didn't even try because every bank turned me down. So I worked 5 months, saved up a lil $$, but here comes July, the next start date...now I'm working and let it pass me by. I stop working in August, thinking I'd be able to pick up where I left off..NOT!!! Now there's a wait list, a lot more applicants and I am now starting from scratch. So I can forget about January. I'll try for July. I take the Compass & PSB AGAIN and interview again only to be rejected for the July class. So I get an email saying that I have to take a different test to remain on the roll over list. Impossible to get a hold of the nursing dept to schedule it. One day I lucked out. So after weeks of stressing over this test, it ended up being easier than the other two. I'm here at the end of the beginning of my journey and I have completed financial aid and I am seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. So my point to all of this is...NEVER GIVE UP!!!! Keep fighting, struggling, pushing and pulling until you get what you want. I could have been finished by now and I've only just begun. I'm glad to be where I am, despite how long it took me to get here.

Hi everyone, so the end of the week is here....anyone get a call yet? Booknurse, long? I havent:/ and does anyone know at this point how many people are enrolled? Losing hope here..

I decided to wait till the next entry dates. I will have 3 or 4 more classes done to bring down the cost where I can pay cash. I need to find out about rolling over my application. For those of you starting please keep us informed on how you like it. Please post your progress so we know if the program is worth the money. :)

No call today.. I'm so bummed. I left her a voicemail earlier this week and no answer back. I'm going to ask her what I could do better to improve my chances for the next cohort since it'll be my 3rd time trying. All is well though, at least I can still take this EMT course I've been wanting to do this spring semester! :)

BTW - does anyone have any new updates with how many were enrolled when they went to their financial aid appointment?
