Hi! I started at Saint V's before going to Capital. Mrs.Capasso was the best. She definetely relates Anatomy and Physiology to nursing. What year are you? I am graduating in two weeks from Capital. Take care. Pokey

Hi Pokey,
I am applying to St. Vincent's actually this week and was wondering if you can share some insight w/me. I am currently a practicing Registered Dental Hygienist for the past 12+ yrs and really want to become an RN now for many reasons. I do enjoy my career but want to do so much more and I've had numerous Orthopaedic surgeries as well as other surgeries so I really know what it is like to be a patient in need and would really like to help others as an RN.
I know that my application will be put on hold by the admissions committee because I do not have a current Biology or Chem pre-requisite that is needed to even be considered. I did speak to the recruitment director who said to definitely send my application now anyways. I will be taking both pre-req's starting in the Fall and will have to take everything else over again such as A&P I and II, Micro, and all other pre-req's because it's been 14+ yrs since I've taken those classes. I am so very excited and can't wait to start school again!!
So where is the Capitol school, in Hartford? How long did you attend St. V's? I am surprised you went to another school. Ok, well any insight you can share w/me would be great! Congratulations to you on your accomplishments! You can feel free to email me at: [email protected] I look forward to talking to you!

Susanne,
I attended St. V;s in 2001-2002. I live about 15minutes away from Hartford so when I was accepted into Capital's program it made sense. Also Capital is ALOTcheaper. From what I hear from grads from St. V's is that once the nursing program starts, it's very difficult. The instructors are strict. Capital's instructors were very kind, reassuring, and just plain wonderful. They treat you like the adult you are. No condescending remarks or belittling. Just a very nurturing environment to learn. I took evening clinicals there which was another plus. I don't think St. V's has that. Also the clinical sites at St.V's are primarily at one site while Capital's are varied.
At St. V's I only took Micro (what a joke!!), religion ( I loved it), and Anatomy and Physiology (Excellent professor). Seriously,Mrs. Capasso (teaches A&P) is by far one of the best instructors I've had in College (and I graduated from UCONN). Well congrats at returning to school. I always said that If nursing had not of worked out that I would have went for Dental Hygenist! Tunxis CC has the same pre reqs for their program as for most nursing programs! Anyway if you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me!

HI Everyone,
I am new to this board. I have been a nurse for 8 years and will begin a new chapter in my life when I start Law School at UConn in the Fall. I currently work at Hartford Hospital. I plan to continue working and attend Law school part time. If anyone has undertaken a similar task, I would certainly appreciate some advice. Thanks.
Lauren
Welcome to the board (I am new here too) and welcome to nursing!
Welcome RN to JD! Uconn law has a beautiful campus! Good luck in your endeavors!!!
Thank you. I fell in love with the campus the first time I saw it. The buildings all look so old. Hard to believe that the Law Library was built in (I think) 1991. I have only been on this board and already I am addicted LOL.
