Ever been accused of being an "overcompensator"?

Published

My soon to be ex-husband has a "girlfriend" he has been going out with in the evenings. My husband and me have a lot of problems, and we are supposed to go see a marriage counselor, even though I'm pretty sure it's over.

Anyway...I've been working really hard to get my RN license. I was having a discussion with my husband today, and he said one of my issues is that I am an overcompensator....I don't understand this. It's true, I'm fat, not much to look at and I do want to go to school to become a NP, but how does that make a person an overcompensator? My goal is to provide a comfortable living for my family. Since my husband didn't finish high school and his girlfriend got an associate's degree in accounting a couple of decades ago and now has an $8 per hour job as a sitter, I don't see how they look at me and say I'm overcompensating. Or am I?

By saying that you are "overcompensating" I think what your husband is saying is that you are making him look like a loser by comparison.

sounds like he is "over compensating" by having a wife and a girlfriend at the same time....

I do not think you are overcompensating. When I think of overcompensaters, I think of brown nosers, suck ups, etc. You don't sound like any of those. You are just trying to be the best you can be (sounds like an army commercial), which we all should try to do. I congratulate you on wanting to go to school. He's probably jealous since you're going to college and you're looking past him.

Drop him. He has no respect and he's jealous of your accomplishements. And if his girlfriend has a brain in her head she'll drop him, too. Once a cheater = always a cheater. As for the people who are concerned for any children, listen to Dr. Phil. "Children would rather be from a broken home than live in one." Good luck in your education. People may not be able to reach the stars, but at least if you're trying you might grasp a low-hanging apple for your efforts.
