Evening Nursing Program at Community College?

Published

I want kids early but I don't think I could have kids during nursing school. Then I thought, maybe I could do evening classes at a community college and get my associate's degree there, so I can stay with the kid(s) or work during the day...

My local community college offers the evening program, at a much lower cost than if I went to state college. Would it be harder to get a job if I went to community college or no?

Depends on where you are, but you could bridge to BSN later. Just be aware that studying for a nursing program is a full time job, too. Be sure to plan time for that. :)

If you don't have kids I would recommend starting your classes FIRST before deciding if you want kids right away or after school is finished. I want more kids buy hopefully I'll be starting a Associates degree nursing program from a community college. I'll either plan it to be due a good 2 to 3 months after graduation, so I can then work on my RN to BSN online while baby is small.

It's not so much community college vs private. Look at the programs accreditation and NCLEX pass rates

Also, take a look at the job market in your area- look at the demand for ADN versus BSN nurses. From what I've seen on here, Mass has a very competitive market, and you'll need a BSN to get into a hospital.

I think I might get my associate's at a community college then transfer to a state college for the BSN. Until then I could possibly work part time as an EMT

I am attending a night ADN program at my local community college. Once I graduate and pass the NCLEX, I will be bridging online into a RN-to-BSN program, as hospitals in my area are only hiring BSN nurses. It will wind up costing me a lot less than the private BSN programs in the area, and it works out well for scheduling, as I have 2 small children.

You can get a BSN online if you already are and rn with an associate's? That's kinda great...
