Eve/Wkend ADN programs KC area..Need Advice Please

U.S.A. Missouri

Hi all!

I am a new poster, long time lurker. I feel I get the best information from these boards, so here goes. I would like to get an Associates RN utilizing the eve/wkend programs within the KC area. This is a second career for me, and days are not an option as I have a little one still at home. Penn Valley is "full" until fall of '09 for their eve ADN, their LPN "wait" is almost that long as well. I guess you could say I am impatient and don't want to wait. :o

My other option is to start the LPN eve program at Concorde this fall. I would have to hustle to get in as they only have a few openings, not to mention they are pricey! My only concern is that I would have a hard time finding a bridge program upon completion of the LPN. Again, it would have to be the eve option. So, should I just be patient and wait, get all my prereq's; or jump in this fall and get my LPN????? I would hate to waste time and money if I couldn't sucessfully bridge into another program. Then again, I don't want to wait 2-3 years just to start either.... ANY suggestions or ideas are appreciated! Thank you!!

The waiting stinks! I waited so long I'd forgotten I'd put myself on the list for LPN eve/wkend until the acceptance letter showed up! I'm like you and couldn't do FT days or I could have gotten in that Fall 2002 LPN. I really want RN but I'm not passing this up. I'm starting LPN Aug 8 with Penn Valley. They are so nice at Pioneer where the LPN school takes place. I took the HOBET in 2002 and I'm just now up for the part time! I'll just bridge when I'm done because I don't want to wait for an RN opening part time. I want to get my feet wet now.

I would be reluctant about Concorde. The pricey private schools can be a waste of money and very expensive. Usually things don't transfer etc. so you are stuck attending til you are completely finished and have racked up quite a bill. Accreditation can be shaky. Penn Valley has an excellent reputation.

I struggled with my decision between NAU ADN and LPN at PV. I'm confident in my PV decision now.

I look at it this way. It's just time. Either way it passes. I would pursue LPN and RN at Penn Valley and see which one comes up first. You can work on pre reqs while waiting and your nursing load will be easier when you do get in. I sat next to a girl this Wed for orientation to the LPN and she took the HOBET in Oct 2005 so her wait wasn't that long for part time??? I don't know what the deal is. There were 62 people in orientation for the eve/wkend. Call them and find out when HOBET testing is.

You could look into Graceland. They are private but well accredited. They are a little pricey but have a good reputation. Good luck!

Colorado Technical University in North Kansas City offers LPN and LPN to RN bridge program if you want to get through quickly and get it over with with no waiting. I graduated from there in 1996 when it was "Sanford -Brown College"-found my self in the same situation as yourself. I am currently bridgeing over to Webster University for bachelors degree-they accept their credits. Good Luck!:)

hey there, i had just a quick question cing_angels. when did ctu in nkc,mo. start up the adn bridge again? are you sure they offer it? i went through the lpn program in 2002 and graduated in 2003, and at that time there was a big uproar amongst the group i was in because when we signed on they said they had it and then once we were in, they told us they were "working on restructering the program" and did not offer it at that time. even when i graduated they still did'nt have it in place. i am wondering because i have been thinking seriously about bridging over and it would be soooo much easier for me to do it there, as i would'nt have to worry about credit acceptance. thanks

from what i have heard, they don't have and have never had a bridge program. the ctu website says nothing of it either. the only lpn-adn bridges in kc that i know of are park u and penn valley.

I only had time to scan your post, but you could bridge to RN through http://www.excelsior.edu
