I took NCLEX PN in 2007 and passed with 85 ?'s. I left feeling I either failed really fast or passed quickly. More fearful of the first! I am a straight A student but this test was CRAZY! I knew I studied very hard attempting 4000 plus practice ?'s in preparation. I used Saunders Comprehensive by the way. I wondered how this random amount of ?'s could assess my competency as a nurse??? I didn't even know what hit me when I left. I took NCLEX RN this morning, got 75 ?'s and felt the same way...oh that was hard but knew I studied adequately again. I used Saunders again but also ATI with a virtual tutor. I was granted a 94% chance to pass the first time by my tutor. Ironically my exit predictor gave me a 97% chance to pass before studying on the last day of class??? Who knows??? I still studied and did around 4000 ?'s in prep for RN. The day before testing, I rested, watched funny movies, used positive thinking. During the test I took lots of deep breaths, said some prayers and took the test with confidence that I had done all I could to prepare. The ?'s did seem to progress and get harder thankfully I guess LOL. Don't you just love SATA??? :hdvwl: I did the "trick" when I got home and got the good pop up! :heartbeat Praying I can confirm statistics next week. Xmas is messing up my 2 business day wait for rapid results! What a wild ride nursing is!

I am an LPN but I think for the most part the NCLEX is anxiety provoking for all of us! :) There is so much power in positive affirmation and thinking. And, by the way, I left wondering if I failed even if the computer stopped at the minimum questions. It was gut wrenching. I wasn's sure what else I could have studied. I just knew I'd studied my heart out. The key was going in with a positive attitude and being prepared (or thinking I was LOL) It's a funky little test I will tell you! There are so many hoops to jump thru to become a nurse. 1st nursing school! You obviously made that one. 2. Studying for and passing NCLEX (wondering how on earth these crazy questions can make us better nurses) 3. Jumping in with both feet and learning there is so much on the job training that occurs after school. Looking back now I can see how NCLEX helps us to become critical thinkers. It's all just part of the initiation process. People who sat for boards 15 years or so ago experienced a totally different testing process. I give a high five for Saunders. Remember Maslow's heirarchy of needs, the ABC's, nursing process and remember there is usually more than one right answer. Ask yourself what's the best based on ABC's and Maslows or NP? I am still using all this in the real world. Keep us posted!

Hi sOOnRN, I graduated Dec 19, 2007 and took NCLEX Jan 11, 2008. I passed the NCLEX-PN at 85 ?'s. I recommend to take it STAT! Statistics prove more pass NCLEX when taken w/in the 1st month after graduation. Do tons of NCLEX RN questions 3000-5000. I actually did a lot of marathon study sessions and was the first to go out of my class. I do better cramming and on a time constraint. Find out what is best for your study habits, think positive, visualize seeing PASS on the computer screen and you will be stressing out as a new nurse before you know it! Anxiety r/t test shutting off at 85! My heart was pounding at 84. I was thinking, "I wonder if it's shutting off at 85?". Surely I didn't stink that bad. I studied hard, I'm an A student. Well it's out of my hands now! I just hope all the studying (4000 ?'s!), positive thinking and praying that's gone on has paid off. I can say the waiting is just one more torture thru this interesting journey of nursing school. Maybe that's what makes the victory so sweet! I can just feel the weight of the world lifting when I see PASS. :dncg: I really don't know what to think...It was a weird test. I agree the questions weren't much like Saunders. It was just weird. I felt like I guessed a lot after getting it down to 2 choices. I had NO calculations which I WANTED. Maternity, meds, tons of priority, several select all that apply, therapuetic communication. Who knows?! I think I would have rather demonstrated my abilities in a clinical setting at this point! Everything I have read says most leave in doubt as how they feel about the test. I agree. I hope my instinct of passing the first time is right and this can be reassurance for future test takers. I pray I will be sending a happy message out Sunday morning! Thanks for all the support!

I feel your pain LOL...I test Friday and I feel myself starting to panic. I'm trying not to since that does no good at all. I'm focusing on pharm and well, just learning to make good choices when I have to guess. I was a 4.0 graduate and I will be mortified if I don't pass. I have done 3500+ questions and aiming to do 4000 by Wed. I test Fri so no studying Thurs. My teacher told me the more questions you do the better prepared you'll be. Only restudy your weak areas etc. Okay, taking a food break so I don't have altered nutrition

Thank you for the encouragement! I agree! Thinking positive helps as well. With every action there is a reaction so make your thoughts about taking boards positive. I am a bit nervous but that is motivation to STUDY! 7 days til I sit for my NCLEX PN.

There is power in prayer and it certainly won't hurt any of us! I'll take all the help I can get! Thanks for the prayers! Let's keep the light going. I just graduated Dec 19th and I sit for boards Jan 11. I'm flipping out a little thinking I might be going to soon. I'm going to reschedule if I feel like I'm not ready. So far I love Saunders and actually used it to study for exams at school by each system in Adult 2. I am also taking a 2 hour review class on Jan 9th. I suppose I'll decide whether to chicken out then. I just don't want to wait too long. I already feel sedentary inertia creeping into my brain! :studyowl: Good Luck to all of us!!!!

Anthony, I understand your dilemma. I am in LPN school part time evening weekends and it will take me 18 months to finish. I'm 7 months in and I love it. My suggestion is make sure the LPN school you choose has National League Nursing (NLN)Accreditation or the same accreditation as the RN school you wish to transfer to. You may have issues with transfering credits etc if not. I made the choice to go LPN with the intent of RN bridge for similar issues as you, as well as, a HUGE waiting list to RN programs. You can work as an LPN while attending RN school with more flexibility. I choose to look at it as lots of experience with patient interaction etc. That's my favorite part so far. Good luck no matter what you choose. Nursing is awesome. BTW, I'm 37 and starting this as a 2nd career! It's never too late, and it's not WHAT you do, It's HOW you do What you do! Carpe Diem!

Hi dconnors! Wow that's expensive! I'm going to Penn Valley's LPN eve/wknd program. Have you looked into going to school there? It's a lot cheaper and they do have a great reputation. I have been told pay is anywhere from $15-20 per hour. Many hospitals vary and not all hospitals utilize LPN's. A lot use patient care techs instead. Basically for me it is a lateral move for the time being so I understand your concern, especially at those rates. I almost went to Nat'l Am Un for RN and they were $$$$. I just couldn't see myself incurring a debt that high at my age of 36. PV costs about $7500. I'll bridge for RN shortly after but I'm excited to be an LPN too. We get a lot of clinical experience at PV. I know there may be a slight wait at PV but all good things are worth the wait :wink2: . Remember to consider accreditation. If you start at an expensive school who is not NLN accredited your nursing credits will not "usually" transfer to a NLN school and you'll have to finish anything you start at the expensive school. Whatever you decide, nursing is an awesome career. So much opportunity for growth and the ability to help others. Good Luck! Kara

Hey All Things Bright! You are SOOOOO RIGHT!!! I'm 4 weeks into Penn Valley's LPN program, evening/weekend. It is AWESOME, HARD, BUSY and FUN! The teachers Dianne and Dana are wonderful. I am confident that they do in fact prepare you with the knowledge to be a holistic and competent nurse, as well as, pass the NCLEX. I'm really excited to be an LPN. Hi fellow PV students! I'm starting next Tuesday 8/8 in the Part-time eve/wkend LPN program. We have class Tues, Thurs 5p-9p and e/o wknd 2 12 hour clinicals. My "personal wait" was long! (since summer 02). I had let go of the dream until the letter showed up in May. Talk about synchronicity. I'm switching careers after 10 years as an office manager. The part time class is filled quickly I believe and it does take 17 months so there are fewer start times as opposed to the full time program. I hear it is faster to get in on days full time. Either way, I have the same opinion as Iluvnursing 265 about becoming an LPN first. It's more experience in the trenches and it's not what you do that's important but HOW you do what you do that counts. You can touch lives no matter! It's an excellent school and I'm very excited.
