  1. In regards to the last post about IV fluids, I have always wondered about Subcutaneous IV- I have never seen it done. Can anyone explain how it is inserted and actually hydrates the person?-does it cause the tissues to swell? How does it actually hydrate? Thanks.
  2. Today we had a nurses meeting. Most of our complaints came about the IDT meetings. We are being pushed to rush through our patients being reviewed, not really able to "discuss" what is going on. We are given about 5 minutes tops to discuss 12-20 patients a piece. Some believe the meetings are for only purposes of re-cert , not changes etc. Others believe this is a time to discuss probems etc. We were told to take our other issues such as psych social problems etc and discuss it amongst our selves. I thought the pupose of IDT was just that? Am I wrong or what? Or is it just a regulatory meeting just for recertifying etc?
  3. I work with a Guatemalan Nurse practioner in Hospice. She has made some very good suggestions for those who use only homeopathic methods. Here is a web site she suggested which give examples for some of their uses. http://www.thebody.com/bp/sept99/herbal.html
  4. I just recently talked to a pharmacist about the same thing (medicaid reimbursment) and he told me it depends on what plan they have chosen-since their is so many now- maybe thats how medicare works too? Not sure.
  5. Colorado Technical University in North Kansas City offers LPN and LPN to RN bridge program if you want to get through quickly and get it over with with no waiting. I graduated from there in 1996 when it was "Sanford -Brown College"-found my self in the same situation as yourself. I am currently bridgeing over to Webster University for bachelors degree-they accept their credits. Good Luck!:)
  6. Hi, To respond to Leslie about Terminal Sedation, I agree, however I thought that is what stage her father is experiencing. My apologies for the misunderstanding.
  7. I agree with earle58, and your nurse. He is most likely going through terminal restlessness and possibly spiritual pain. Have you considered having the chaplain come to your home and speak to him? Even if he was not a religious man, this does sometimes help people feel more accepted by God or their higher power- people struggle wether their worthy and where they might "go". Even simple prayers give people strength and guidance that he too is loved and accepted.... Also has the nurse spoke with you about "Terminal Sedation"? It is a choice that can be yours and his- now that you are the only primary care giver ( not eldest sibling who can't be found) you are the decision maker. Good Luck, I wish only the best outcome for you and your father.
