Hello,
I am 27 years old and thinking of switching careers to nursing. There is a new nursing school in Phoenix that opened last year. The cost of the whole program is about 26k but there is no waiting list. The student graduates with an AA. Has anyone heard of this school? Can someonne tell me something about this school and their program? I was told that University of Phoenix and Grand Canyon University does credit their courses if decided to go for BSN.
I just poked around the AZ BON website, and all I could find was a 2006 figure for EB at a pass rate of 68%. Can you provide a link for this 41% stat?

Hi!Our oldest daughter might be starting at Ethel Bauer and I was just wondering what the typical schedule is like? We have heard some conflicting info on clincals. She just started her first pre-req.
Thank you!!
I'm also interested in alternative programs due to my schedule, but EBSN seems to be stuck with a 41% pass rate right now according to:

There was another thread about this (few on EB), so may want to be wary.
Keep us updated - I'm carefully curious about this school as well :)

Okay.... now I can post from the perspective of a recent grad...
I passed the NCLEX on the first try, as did most of my class. I do not have exact statistics on our particular class and I don't know how that will affect the overall pass rate.
But I can tell you that the people who made the school worth going to are gone. My favorite teachers, administrators and staff have all gotten fed up and left.
I am just about off orientation on my unit and I feel very prepared for the job I am doing... I passed the NCLEX in 75 questions.... I am thrilled with the level of education I received... but I also know I had to fight to get it, that a lot of it I taught myself and friends and classmates who also did well did the same thing. I think our class did so well because we got fed up and started studying in groups on our own and taught each other.
If you are considering EBSN at this point... I sure wouldn't recommend it.
The reason I went to EBSN was the ridiculous number of pre-reqs at the community colleges at the time... but I just helped one of our CNAs look up the new pre-reqs (because I knew they had streamlined things) and I am happy to say that if it were under the current rules, I would have gone to Rio Salado in a heartbeat.
The class directly ahead of us, apparently, had an utterly abysmal pass rate and several members of that class have failed the NCLEX a second time.
Think hard about where you go to nursing school. Make sure you will get the education you deserve and are paying for.

Wow thanks!! That confirms my decision on that one lol. I understand colleges with no wait like Apollo and others may be plagued with students who realistically aren't ready for the workload involved and that can be part of it, but it's always good to hear more, especially from recent grads.
Kudos for making it! I could imagine failing with that amount paid for school (what mid 20k?), would be uber-frustrating if not downright upsetting.
Due to my schedule I'm interested in Rio, but I could have sworn they either recently closed their program or something like that.

Only mentions their accelerated program.. not sure if that's the right one.
I'm hearing great things about Apollo so far. I know they're going through some accreditation issues since it's new but I saw that on the AZ board of nursing sheet:
http://www.azbn.gov/documents/education/Nursing%20Education%20Programs.pdf
That Apollo and UoP both had the certification needed. Not sure how that affects transferring to ASU or anything, but at least there are other optional colleges for those willing to pay more to get into the field sooner.
If any other grads or students of EBSN wanna pop in their .02, I'd be interested - so far it doesn't look very good though
hey gilbert dad, did you see apollo's pass rate? i hear its not much better than EBSN!
Agreed, although in their defense it seems to be going up at least. It was 50% or 03-07, and now 84.6% for 07-07:
http://www.azbn.gov/documents/nclex/RN%20NCLEX%20Quarterly%20Reports%20Q3%202007.pdf
(page 9/14 at the top)
96−411 APOLLO COLLEGE − ADN PHOENIX 07−07 13 11 2 84.62 13 11 2 84.62
06−07 1 0 1 0.00 1 0 1 0.00
03−07 0 0 0 0.00 10 5 5 50.00
TOTAL 14 11 3 78.57 24 16 8 66.67
I imagine many of those schools suffer from ill-prepared students going in and thinking that it's going to be a cakewalk like the commercial said and then discovering there's actually a lot of meat to the course.
From the other Apollo threads, I've yet to hear anything bad aside from the cost. Truth be told, I wish they were the price of EB.. but at least the quality seems pretty top-notch.
The real test will come when the accreditations come through. If they can gain accreditation where it's needed so folks can transfer to "real" university.. that'll be a lot of legitimacy gained.
I can't send out apps until around May/June, so I'm really keeping an ear to the ground for online or alternative colleges. I can't go to a traditional one because of my unique situation, so if there's a decent alternate.. I'm open to it if the pass rate and education quality is decent.
Would be nice to have the option to just move in with one of the parents again though lol
