Essex county college spring 10

Published

Hey guys, new member here. Quick question has anyone else applied for the spring 2010 nursing program and if so when do we get acceptance/denial letters? thanks

Your welcome.

No, they only take your pre req GPA into account. Then your percentile on your PAX, Essex County resident and how many credit you've taken @ ECC. Only Eng. 101, Chem 101/103 and Bio 121's GPA do they count.

Do you mind me asking why you are transfering from Rutger's? You don't want to do your RN there?

Hey Phoenix,

My GPA is wayy too low to get into the Rutgers RN Program, I would love to do it there though. My issue is i've done some pre-req work at Rutgers and did pretty well in everything except Chem. I had to take it twice before I finally got a C, and this is in Chem 1/2 (bad, i know) and so i'm afraid that if ECC transfers the GRADES from these course ive taken at RU then it might be hard to get into ECC's program as well :( Any advice would be appreciated and thanks so much.

Jersey don't worry about that unless you are transfering those three classes over to Essex. I doubt that you are because you have to take some credits here before you can apply for the program and if I'm not mistaken, you are already taking chem here right?

What courses are you taking now, are you enrolled already?:)

Right now, i'm taking a&p 2 at ECC. I am enrolled. I just read that you must take a minimum of 6 credits at ECC in order to sit for the entrance exam. So I was going to take Chem 103 over the summer and apply. After that I will be done all pre-reqs. Hopefully they will let me choose as to what courses I want to transfer over and which I don't. If that is the case than it would be good. I'm going to call the department tomorrow and ask (or whenever the schools open back up). wish me luck. :)

Again Best wishes to you. I'm taking A&P II also, along w/ sociology. Call the school, get the info. and I'm sure it'll work out.:)

How low is too low? Your GPA may also be too low to get into ECC's program as well. Dont let that 2.5 GPA requirement fool you. I know people who tried to get into the program with 3.7's and still didnt get in. Its not only about grades though the NET score is also very important. I took Chem years ago at my previous college and got a C but then took it over at ECC and got A's in both. Maybe you should do the same because you need nothing less than a C in any of the prereq's imo. Good luck.

Jersey, you've already said that you were going to take CHM over. I posted the criteria so that you can make an informed decision. If your C was in the 2.5-2.6 range, taking it over will at least get you 2 points as opposed to 1 point. Given the system above, it may explain why some people got denied with a 3.7 GPA. Don't get frightened based on GPA. Go speak with the counselor I told you about and you will get a more detailed answer based on the information you give her.

If you don't have it already, buy the NLN RN PAX book and read the sections on vocabulary and reading comp. I take my test in March also and in addition to the book, I signed up for the review course. Didn't you receive a notice in the mail about the review classes being offered? The registration for the courses is $87.00 each. I'm taking the math review. We meet for only 3 saturdays in Feb. The last meeting is on the 27th. The board is posted outside of the nursing computer lab, next to the bulletin board in the corner. Check it out. :)

I heard of it but they only review from the book not alot of tips i spoke to the prof. How did u study for the reading

I took the exam last september and am in the program now. Get the recommended study book and study from THIS weekend. Time yourself and keep going. I got the book 2 weeks before the exam and just went through the book cover to cover and did pretty well. Make sure to time yourself as well.
