ER RN must haves

Specialties Emergency

Published

I work on a tele floor, but i'm putting together a graduation gift for my brothers girlfriend- she has worked in an ER while in school and will probably be getting a job in one once she passes her boards. I am thinking of putting together a gift of "must haves" for RNs. I know what these are for the floor, but would love some insight from some ER nurses on here about what would be most useful in your setting! Things i'm tossing around: clipboard, badge lanyard (I know these vary from institution to institution), multicolor pens, highlighters, dry erase markers, penlight, etc. Thanks in advance for your input!

Get her the nice Leatherman trauma shears and call it a day ;)

Above all ER nurses need a sense of humor. Give her a set of wine glasses and s bottle of fine wine. :)

Lots of booze, lots and lots of booze that is all she will need!

All the above, plus a retractable pocket tape measure. And booze, but not pocket size, that's just asking for trouble ;)

Trauma Shears, Stethoscope (I carry mine on a hip-holder), Black ink gel pen (for writing the odd verbal orders, signing off on heparin and blood flowsheets etc.), red ink ballpoint pen (for lab slips), Carpuject, hemostat combined with tape-roll.

That's it! :-)
