Hi there,
Is it the ER RN responsibility to check and make sure the ER doc interpreted an Xray and sent it to radiology for a final read?

No... Some of us will remind the Doc it needs done, if WE have time, but not our resposibility.

If I know someone has come back from xray I might go and tell the doc they are back. I might even pull the specific xray up since I know how to do that. That is the end of my xray responsibility. The job I just ended nurses weren't even near the xray machine and didn't tell the docs when they were done. Completely the docs job

The doc ordered it, he needs to follow up on it.

Sigh- they always find some way to blame the nurse.

Agreed. I have lots of my own work to do, I can't do the docs as well. I did work at one hospital where the RN was responsible for following up, making sure all lab, x-ray etc were complete, then flagged the chart for review. The docs would sit around chatting and expected us to do the legwork. Nope, not for me.
As much as I hate computer charting, that is one thing that has improved. When lab or x-rays are complete, an icon shows up on the board. If I happen to notice that everything is complete, I will put up a "request" message, so the docs see that everything is back and can review the results. BUT, it is not my responsibility to do so.

No, simply no. BUT if there is no read AND you're waiting on results it's prudent to check and make sure the film is not misplaced:mad: Prudent and job description are a bit different. I'm sticking with no

Again, whoever orders the investigation has the responsibility to either check the results themselves
Not your responsibility, the doc ordered it, the doc should check it
