Hello to all fellow Nurses.....I am a new RN. Due to personal reasons I just got my license 4 months ago, but I graduated 2006. Until now I haven't found any job yet. The web application is just so slow, and not even a 100% guaranteed that you will be picked. I am desperate for any placement just to gain experience, since most of the facilities I applied to required at least a year. How will I be able to get that experience if none of the hospitals nor facilities here in Southern California hires inexperienced nurses. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS???? :)
It seems that they're waiting for someone with more experience to come along. They are offering you an on call position, I would take it if I were you. Usually when they do that it's because they are testing you to see if they like you or that if you're competent enough to do the job, coming from the (meaning you graduated from there) Philippines isn't working in your favor. This is what I got from a friend of mine who is a DSD back in Florida. Now being that they're willing to give you a chance is a good thing. Let them know that you're willing to ask a lot of questions if there's something that you're unclear about. Don't try to solve the issue on your own, always ask when in doubt. If you don't that will work against you once you start working. Hope this helps and congratulations, and good luck!!!!! :-)

yah they told me that they need more experience, yes i will take that , its really hard bec. of different setting. i hope i pick up easily and adjust easily, im really nervous tomorrow is the start of orientation. thanks:lol2:
Try not to be so nervous, try to be more excited!!!!! Heck, I'm excited to see that new nurses are getting jobs....Do the best that you can do, and be readily available if they want you to work. Let them know that you can work any day and any shift, and to let the other workers know that if they need a day off that you're willing to work with them. In other words, have a flexible schedule. That should work in your favor. The SNF is going to be different but at least you've got your foot in the door. It's going to be a lot of work, but you can do it and if you can work in a SNF, then you can work just about anywhere. Good luck and have fun tomorrow!

Hi Aleena23,
I just wanna to know how you are doing with your new job. Did you received the orientation? If so how long is gonna be? I am still looking for a job as a nurse. Any tips or advice, it will be greatly appreciated. Also I was thinking that it might be something in my resume that doesn't look good. Besides, my lack of nursing experience in California, I don't know why I don't even get a job interview. I am so discouraged.
hello, how do u get certificate in public health, am interested. thanks
Thank you for asking. Yes I did, I got the PHN certificate since I have a BS and I completed a community health nursing class. I am working as a PHN so far. But my desire to work in acute setting looks pretty discouraged. I feel so sad. I have a vast clinical experience overseas but not in the US, so it doesn't count. I wanted to pursue with my career and enter in the NP program, but I can't b/c they ask me for at least 1 year of acute care experience. I have taken every single certification that I can, PALS, ACLS, BLS, NRP, Fetal heart monitoring, next CIC; it doesn't count. Right now I need extra money, my husband lost his job, he is EE and so far no job opportunities for US. Although I like my job but I don't have too much opportunities to advance in my career. I don't even get a job interview. It seems like my applications are invisible; it is so frustating.
Nursing Job hunting is still really bad. Here in California most hospital, agencies, any health care jobs need at least a year of experience. It is very very discouraging actually. I'm back working in retails instead just to divert any frustrations and discouragement I have in this nursing rejection, but keeping my fingers crossed that I get a really good placement in God's will.
I kind of lost hope until I met a doctor who was my customer. When I was ringing him up I saw in his credit the initial DR. so I asked if he's a doctor, and he said yes. I said I am an RN who's struggling for a job since last year. He was so confused in everything I said more on disbelief since he knew that there is a scarcity of nurses all over US. He gave me his number and wanted me to contact him after his 2-week overseas trip. I thought he was kidding until I searched his name in the internet and found out that he's an outstanding doctor and multi-awarded orthopedic doctor here in SoCal. I was so happy in what I knew yet still skeptical about it. I just need to wait for days and find out if he can offer me a nursing job in his clinic. It is a big clinic who offers multi-healthcare services. ^^
I'll continue to be very optimistic and pray that the right job will soon come to me. ^^ WISH ME LUCK GUYS!!!! ^^
