  1. Nursing Job hunting is still really bad. Here in California most hospital, agencies, any health care jobs need at least a year of experience. It is very very discouraging actually. I'm back working in retails instead just to divert any frustrations and discouragement I have in this nursing rejection, but keeping my fingers crossed that I get a really good placement in God's will. I kind of lost hope until I met a doctor who was my customer. When I was ringing him up I saw in his credit the initial DR. so I asked if he's a doctor, and he said yes. I said I am an RN who's struggling for a job since last year. He was so confused in everything I said more on disbelief since he knew that there is a scarcity of nurses all over US. He gave me his number and wanted me to contact him after his 2-week overseas trip. I thought he was kidding until I searched his name in the internet and found out that he's an outstanding doctor and multi-awarded orthopedic doctor here in SoCal. I was so happy in what I knew yet still skeptical about it. I just need to wait for days and find out if he can offer me a nursing job in his clinic. It is a big clinic who offers multi-healthcare services. ^^ I'll continue to be very optimistic and pray that the right job will soon come to me. ^^ WISH ME LUCK GUYS!!!! ^^
  2. I guess for now the best thing to do is find a good backer...An RN who's working in a facility like ages already, 'coz correct me if I'm wrong the managers now prefer to have a referred RN from a current staff in that certain facility....You will have a higher percentage of getting in the facility esp. if your back-up has great working relationship/history. ^_^
  3. I definitely feel you. I spent 5 years in College just to earn my degree, then I ended up jobless. It is really frustrating yet I'm trying not to let that control me or else I'd be severely depress by now. lols I tried NEW GRAD program too, but they said I graduated like ages ago and that didn't really qualify as a NEW GRADUATE....and the other positions needed at least a year of experience, so yeah basically I don't know where I belong.....I guess back to square one... The competency level is very high now so yeah we just need to put our best foot forward, and be the prime candidate....By the way, I graduated in Philippines too, so I definitely know how it feels to get the degree there, and venture the career here in US.... but as you've said GOOD LUCK TO US...GOD BLESS ^_^
  4. hi...No I haven't tried any refresher course and I don't even know how and where to start it....I think I'm just gonna go to Saddleback College and see whatever they have there for me...a refresher course or any training that will do...I was off nursing for 3 years and it was definitely the downside of my whole career. I really hope for the best since the competency level now is sky high.. but thanks so much for the suggestion. I'll keep that in mind... ^_^
  5. I guess what the HR guy was trying to dig was How well do you do after care. I've had my related learning experience in an ICU years ago and it was a total care..that included after care of the patient. It was a one on one care, which means you are in-charged of everything. From giving medications to cleaning up all the patients stool or urine or in layman's term "POOP". Now a days, some facilities are laying off CNA or LVNs that is why most of them requires nurses to be ALL-IN-ONE function. They need nurses who can function well in terms of knowledge, skills, and Attitude. That if the case need them to clean up a messy patient who just defecated in his bed, she/he will not give any negative attitude towards it. ^^ The question thrown to you was actually appropriate, though the real intention and meaning was hidden. Instead of using medical terms, he chose to use layman's term. He works in a HR department thus his medical terms and ideas were limited, but the whole essence was actually there. He will get an idea on how well you will respond to such scenario, esp. for the position you applied for. ^^
  6. Hello to all fellow Nurses.....I am a new RN. Due to personal reasons I just got my license 4 months ago, but I graduated 2006. Until now I haven't found any job yet. The web application is just so slow, and not even a 100% guaranteed that you will be picked. I am desperate for any placement just to gain experience, since most of the facilities I applied to required at least a year. How will I be able to get that experience if none of the hospitals nor facilities here in Southern California hires inexperienced nurses. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS???? :)
