That sounds pretty bad. 40% pass rate? Either the teachers are bad or the students are just lazy. And by seeing that you actually wrote "Wouldn't fit in socially" tells me that you're already thinking about this school in a negative way. So do yourself a favor and stop depressing yourself about it and start looking for better schools. Nursing schools should be passing 100% pass rates because nursing students should be going all out because it should be the start of what they want to do. I guess that's not the way things work though. Maybe this just helps to weed out the dumb ones that don't need to be working in health care.
Just do everything you can to bump yourself out of the waitlist at the better schools.
lol, yeah that actually exists. 40%. highest. wait list...i dont know. not depressing about it really. just wondering if i'm being too judgemental and should give the place a shot.

In my personal opinion I wouldn't enroll there just to start sooner. We are all excited about getting into a program as fast as possible but after you are finished you still have to pass the NCLEX to practice. What would all the hard work be for if you were among the 60% who wasn't prepared by your education to get your license. Not a chance I'd want to take. I'd rather wait and get the best education possible, it'll pay off in the long run. You should also be at a place where you can fit in, because having your fellow students support you will make the tough years of nursing school a little more bearable.
Good luck!!!

no wait list. but...40% NCLEX pass rate was their highest in recent yearsall other local schools have 2-3 year wait listsyou wouldnt fit in sociallyother degrees, private schools, etc. are not an option
Not even if THEY paid ME to go. My time is valuable, and my effort priceless. I'm not going to waste either if my chance of receiving an appropriate education is *at best* 40%.
Run the other way to a school with better standards. A wait list doesn't always last as long as you think, either: students oftentimes find that over time the people ahead of them have changed their mind, gone to other schools, had lifechanges that intervened and suddenly you have a spot WAY higher than originally slated.
Good luck!

The 40% pass rate turns me off for sure. I mean come on 60% of the students can't be morons so that has to say something about the quality of education they are getting. And I dont know about you but to me I want to learn nursing so thoroughly that I will never question my abilities to care for others.. I want to be 100% sure about everything I do because in an emergency you wont have time to go look things up in a book... you have to already know and with a 40% pass rate I can't be sure that I would have the opportunity to get that kind of education.
Doesn't matter. Dumb Nurse College :)
Point of question is, would you go to any school that offers no wait list BUT only a 40% pass rate for NCLEX?
i'm from so cal. the two closest programs to me actually have 2 of the best pass rates in the state. i guess i should wait huh?

40%? No. Never. Why hasn't the Board of Nursing shut it down is the question...
In Maryalnd I believe if a school doesn't measure up to at least 75% it gets deep sixed!
Can you tell me the source of your information?
I can look it up at your state board. I just can't believe it...
I found it: http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/passrates.htm

It must only exist for political reasons... or offer hope....
In 2001 had a 28% pass rate!

Holy Moly! And keep in mind this is AFTER students have either dropped out or failed out....these are their graduates! Unless they PAY students to STAY in the program!! Gee, I was only kidding about that part
Talk about a tuition mill. Did I mention you should run the other way??
Cerebrum: do you know such a link for NY? I'm curious now :)
