Does anyone know of any emergency nurse practitioner programs? I know Jacksonville University has one, but are there any others?
And...then you run into the whole issue of FNP is suposed to be in primary care, not acute care and some of the states are starting head down the direction that only ACNP or ACPNP should be in the hospital. I do think though that this will be a long time coming. To the OP - good luck with whatever route you choose - let us know which way you go.
thanks!!! i think i would like to stick with going into an emegency nurse practitioner program and i looked into emory university and it looks like they have a really good program.
Received an email response from Emory:
MSN Open House on Sat. Feb 28th from 8am-12pm.
There email: [email protected] the follow up reply was from an admission's advisor.
They write the ACNP board.
Which post are you talking about? The Emory grads sit for the FNP cert:
"Multiple opportunities for graduates exist in emergency departments and urgent care centers. Certification is available as Family Nurse Practitioner from the American Nursing Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners."

Acnp is acute care. They are trained to work in hospitals. I was told that there is some debate over whether or not primary, FNP, or ACNP is the more appropriate program for ER. I think all would be fine, but I would try to make sure you can focus your clinicals in the ER. For example, I will fall under ACNP, but my clinicals will be Critical care focused.
Few things and probably vary greatly from state to state but what we get to do :
... your licensing
... your protocol
... your state laws (usually directly influenced by the high spending medical associations).
... whatever JCAHO has to say
.
True some states are limiting but some states are also recognizing the shortage.
.
The additional training with the FNP + ER sure would be helpful in clinics, urgent/emergent and rural areas.........
Do they still have their post master's program?David Carpenter, PA-C
All new programs are on hold. From what I was told "for years possibly"..... My direct information is in relation to the ACNP program I don't know what else went down the tubes.
I would have been doing it as "post masters"....
