English 101 is a class that factors in greatly with my desired nursing program. I got a B in this class 15+ years ago. I would like to retake it, but I have to follow a strict education plan to keep my financial aid. I would like to find an online school where I can take it and pay for it myself and then transfer it to my current college (Olympic College in Bremerton, Wa).
Does anyone here know of a good online school, preferably cheap, that would transfer to ANY college? I've looked at Straighterline and Pennfoster both of which don't look like they will work.
I figured I would check here to see if anyone has a recommendation before wasting my day scouring the internet! Thanks for any leads anyone may have.

Check a local comm college
Yeah, I already go to the local community college. I'm going to ask if they will allow me to take it as long as I pay for it myself. I had to appeal to take the classes on my ed plan.

Online classes are great for English 101. I highly recommend that route. As for whether it is transferable, that entirely depends on which nursing school you will go to. The only way to really know is to sit down with a counselor. Although it might look cheaper to take certain classes at a distant school through online learning, it generally doesn't work out to be cheaper after you consider out of state tuition. Take a look at in-state community colleges, and make sure that it transfers. Since you are retaking the course, you will almost definitely have to pay for it out of pocket. Financial aid rarely covers retakes. Some schools, such as mine, charge more for online courses, but others don't. Just be sure to consider all of the fees when you compare.

The local community college is your best bet. They will let you take it and pay out of pocket. Unless you are already in poor standing there, there's nothing that would change that.
I will talk to the financial aid office when they open back up. I attend the local community college now, in good standing. My financial aid award is contingent on me taking the classes they approved ONLY because I have so many credits already. I don't want to sign up for it at our college without very clear permission in case it causes me to lose my aid, so I will ask. I just got to thinking perhaps there is somewhere cheaper to take it online that I could then transfer over to my community college.

If you can't take it at your community college online, try one of the Seattle Community Colleges - they offer ENG 101 online and are easy to get matriculated into for taking random coursework. I knew a number of UW and SU students who would take a full load at their schools and then pick up a class at north or central community college because it was easier, cheaper, fit better, whatever.
Not sure how this would work with your financial aid. Check with advisers on both ends to be sure it won't mess you up.
I will look into those schools - thank you!
