Endorsement without CGFNS

Published

Hello I am a RN educated in Hong Kong. I recently got my license in California and I am interested to endorse to one of the compact states. However, I find that most of them need CGFNS for foreign educated nurse even tho I already have a RN license in California. Does anyone know if any states that have easier endorsement, i.e. without having to go thru CGFNS? Thanks

All depends on where you want to live and work. California does their own assessment where most other states require CGFNS or other acceptable body to do that assessment for the state. You may have no choice but to do CGFNS

I emailed Texas BON and they said that typically LPN/LVN need them but RN do not unless they ask for it...

Thanks for your input! I found out Colorado RN endorsement doesn't need CGFNS too!

Does anyone know if Pennsylvania requires CGFNS? Thanks, I'm an Australian looking to move there soon.

On the state website

Out-of-State and International RNs

Out-of-state RNs may be licensed without examination if they have already passed an acceptable one. (If not, they will apply for license by endorsement with exam.)

An internationally educated RN who has not yet taken the NCLEX and been licensed in another US jurisdiction should apply first for CGNFS certification. After the RN is certified, they may apply to the Pennsylvania Board, using the Application for Licensure by Endorsement with Exam for Internationally Educated Registered Nurses form. The RN will also register with Pearson at this time (http://www.pearsonvue.com/NCLEX).

Even if the candidate has since been licensed on the basis of exam in another state, the RN should provide educational evaluation. If the RN wants to begin work under a TPP (temporary permit), the RN should provide English proficiency scores as well.

it appears they require CGFNS certification which is an exam unlike a lot of other states that just require the report if going for initial licensing

Thank you so much for this information. I’ll have to give proof of my nursing education to

CGFNS, then sit an exam with them, then contact PA BON to sit NCLEX, or sit the NCLEX then contact the board.

Thats a bit overwhelming after 35 yrs of nursing!

You cannot sit NCLEX until the BON approves you to sit. Some find it easier to register in another state then endorse rather than sit the CGFNS exam

That is a good idea...I'll look at states that don't need the CGFNS. :)

To be honest there are very few that don’t use CGFNS and to be honest I think even now all use CGFNS or some other agency but if wanting to work in Pennsylvania then CGFNS will still be required for endorsing but I think it is just the report not the exam

Please does Texas BON need ielts and cgfns?
