I'm a NJ RN and I've applied for endorsement in PA with a temporary practice permit.
I sent in all the paperwork, check, paid nursys to verify my license, and my school sent my official transcript to the board. The PA board should receive everything in the mail by Monday.
Anyone know approximately how long this process takes? I have an interview next week, and if all goes well, they would want me to start on April 8th. But I need to have my TPP for PA to start orientation. I'm hoping I can go to the interview and be able to say "I should have it by then."
I know the NJ BON is notoriously slow, but if you are persistent with calling/emailing or if you show up in person, they'll issue your license. Is PA like this too?
Hi,
I applied for mine January 28th 2018, I then applied for the TPP February 26th and got that within 2 days. I have called, emailed and the only thing I got was an automated voice mail saying they are taking 12 weeks!!! Clearly my application (which was by endorsement from NY state) has taken longer than that. The most frustrating part is you can be on hold for over an hour and all of a sudden I get a message saying they cannot take the call to leave your number and they will contact you back. I chose that and got the automated reply. So, how do you even contact a real person?!
I paid for my PA license by endorsement application mid April. As of July 6th..still no license. I've spent at least 4 hours (most on hold) on the phone with them, as they're somehow reporting discrepancies in my application. I believe there was a computer glitch, as it reported that I'm licensed in every state I'm NOT licensed in, and vice versa. They're not reviewing my uploaded response to the discrepancies, and the only call I've received was from a very rude girl, who called me during work and gave me very vague response and hung up. I just weeded my entire yard, while listening to Pennsylvania nursing jazz music on hold, and back in the house now relaxing to more of the same.
Does anybody have a direct contact for assistance from a live Pennsylvania Board of Nursing employee?
Hi HappyGoLuckyRN
I also started the endorsement application on April 11, 2018 .. I currently hold a NY state license and moved to PA in the beginning of June figuring I would have the PA license by at least the end of June.. Still nothing.. I've spent hours waiting to only have someone at the BON telling me they are so back logged and the process can be up to 14 weeks! I told her that if I'd known I would've applied for the temp permit.. and that this is an endorsement and it shouldn't take that long also my understanding was 6 to 8 weeks on endorsements..I had a job interview on June 8 .. offered a full time position but now without the license I can't even do orientation. I've been crazy frustrated and still waiting to hear. (your comment on weeding the yard while on hold made me laugh) I just called again today and waited over an hour to hear that the discrepency I corrected on June 28th will not be reviewed for another 20 business days!! I had to have a letter from former employee email the hours I worked in NY because the education hour requirements differ between the two states. I'm really dissapointed on how the state handles professional licenses.. I don't know anyone that works there or any info on how to reach them any better. Next is a trip to the PA DMV here..I can hardly wait. I wish you luck ..post when you receive your license!
I called the PA Board of Nursing yesterday and (after on hold for an hour) was told there is a backlog causing Endorsement applications to take up to 6 months and Temporary Practice Permit application 5-6 weeks. I'm really nervous since I'm supposed to start my first nursing job on August 12th and wasn't able to apply for Endorsement with TPP until July 10th!
Has anyone recently had any luck with getting a Temporary Practice Permit? Does anyone know of a way to speed up the process?
I am in the same boat. Sent everything in and have yet to hear anything. Has anyone tried making the trip to their offices in Harrisburg? I need to at least get my TPP as I have a start date of August 20th. I am wondering if the three hour drive to the offices would at least have me leaving with my TPP? I am beginning to feel very frustrated.

UPDATE: If anyone else is under a severe time crunch and in desperate need of a TPP with endorsement, I was able to get my TPP expedited by calling the PA board of nursing and getting transferred to another department (maybe the endorsement office?) who got my application reviewed and permit issued in a day. I had called three times before and not had any luck, but I think if your situation is dire enough, they can get your application reviewed a few days early. Hope this helps someone else!

Hi nursekate19, I began my application for RN (by endorsement from NY) on January 28th (transcripts, application fee, child abuse CE, nursys verification) and every time I log into their portal none of the checklist items have changed, the only two that show as completed are application fee and child abuse CE. I ended up applying for a temporary permit towards the end of February and I got that within a couple of days. I have tried calling them, but I am either on hold forever or I get a busy signal and cannot reach anyone. I just sent them an email to ask what the status is, but it is kind of ridiculous. California is another one that took approximately 3 months to process, but at least they stated that very clearly right away.
Anyway, good luck and speedy process for all!
