Endorsement & Temporary Practice Permit in PA - timeframe?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

I'm a NJ RN and I've applied for endorsement in PA with a temporary practice permit.

I sent in all the paperwork, check, paid nursys to verify my license, and my school sent my official transcript to the board. The PA board should receive everything in the mail by Monday.

Anyone know approximately how long this process takes? I have an interview next week, and if all goes well, they would want me to start on April 8th. But I need to have my TPP for PA to start orientation. I'm hoping I can go to the interview and be able to say "I should have it by then."

I know the NJ BON is notoriously slow, but if you are persistent with calling/emailing or if you show up in person, they'll issue your license. Is PA like this too?

@evemarie, where in PA are you? I am near Philly. I have not applied to any jobs yet til I get the PA license. Do you think I should apply anyway? The application asks for PA license info and I am afraid my application will automatically be rejected since I don't have that information.

MedSurgRN14,

I am also near Philly. I started applying for jobs when I found out where I would be moving (I am a military spouse so we are moving due to that). I figured since I had an OH RN they would understand that I am in the process of getting a PA RN. I would say it never hurts to apply, especially if you have an RN from another state already.

It is very frustrating that it is taking so long to process the license. Since it seems other people are running into similar issues, it is comforting to know I am not alone.

I agree it is very frustrating! Any updates on licenses? If they are just endorsing our licenses, it shouldn't take a few months... We are not new nurses.

Hey y'all! I submitted an app for endorsement (& TPP), I have my active RN license in TX, moving to PA. I did the child abuse CE, app, app fee, Nursys license verification, & official transcript snail mailed from my school... On my checklist, one of the items says "Form II Verification" Does anyone know what that is?? Can't call the BON during business hours until tmrw so I thought I'd reach out here since this thread seems active.

Thanks, & good luck to us... Currently hoping my job offer won't be rescinded if I only have the TPP in time since it looks like I won't have the actual PA license :(

Hi GoldenString, I saw the Form II Verification on the checklist as well. Not sure what that is, but it must be completed by a human (vs computer, which auto-fills app fee and CE). I think you should be okay with the TPP. Did they make the offer to you already?

Hi fellow RNs, just wanted to check in and see if anyone has gotten their licenses yet? It's been 2 months and 1 week for me already, but my license endorsement is still pending.

Surrendered and got the TPP. Will see how long that takes!

I filed for the TPP June 26 and was approved June 28-- it took only 2 days! Am still waiting for my license however. It seems though someone did go through the checklist for my license, so I will probably get my license number soon.

I recommending getting the TPP & License since the license is taking about 3 months to process.

Got my license today. Looks like its taking about 2.5 months!

I have been trying to obtain a TPP in the state of PA because I recently moved from OH. My transcripts were received by the board on June 29th. I still haven't heard anything else. Have any of you applying for a TPP from out of state had to send additional coursework to the board besides your official transcripts?

Hi PN2017, I did both the TPP and license, which included sending in the transcripts and license verification for the state of NY and that was enough. Last time I spoke with the BON, they said the TPP should take about 7-10 business days. Have you logged into check the status of your TPP or called for an update?

Hi all,

I am currently an RN in Michigan and moving to Pennsylvania to pursue a masters. I officially sent my application on 4/6 and need to be licensed in PA by the time I start clinical in the fall. I haven't had much luck communicating with the Pennsylvania State Board (waiting on hold for an hour and never getting through to a person) and was wondering if anyone who has been through this can provide some insight. Supposedly it takes 10 weeks to process the application.. is this from the time that all materials are received or the date of application submission? Thanks!!
