Emory New RN Residency Fall 2015

U.S.A. Georgia

Hey, so I haven't seen any new threads pop up about the next round of Emory's new grad residencies. Has anyone applied recently/heard anything? I'm scheduled for an interview at Midtown on the 30th, but I'd like to talk to/hear from others going through the process or those who have already been through it. Anyone know if the interview is just the group, or if you pass the group interview and then have to come back for another one-on-one? I'm from out-of-state.

futureRN2015, I was interviewing for CVICU and was told they were no longer accepting interviews after the group before me finished. I was pretty bummed and they offered for me to interview with MICU/SICU or neuro ICU. My first choice was MICU at that point, but I guess it just wasn't in my cards!

Interviewing today at Midtown; good luck everyone!! :) I do wish I had some more information on the med/surg residency so I could better prepare for the interview, but I guess we just have to go with the information we have!

Same here! I just hope everything goes smooth.

Do you think they'll separate us based on interest? Ie if we're interested in cardiac, neuro, general, onc, etc?

I hope they do. It will make things easier. What time is your interview?

I read somewhere that they will try to honor your wishes, that when you come for the interview try introduce you to the manager of the unit you're interested in if it's available. But I'm not doing med-surg, so that could be outdated info! Good luck everyone!

Mine is at 11:30! What about you? I'm going to try to swing by the ICU interview since I know one of the managers over there, but that may or may not work, haha.

I'm sure it will. Mine is at 3 o'clock. I hope cardiac has enough openings.

I'm trying for cardiac as well. A friend of mine interviewed at University and said that most people wanted general m/s, so there's hope for us! ;)

Why is the waiting after the interview so much worse??? lol I keep checking my application status even though I know it won't reflect anything just for a little peace of mind.

How did your interview go? Any tips?

I think it went ok, but my interviewer was a bit more stoic than the other ladies around me, so I had less to go on. She was very friendly, she just didn't show as much of what she was thinking.

My advice after that would be answer as well but also as honestly as possible. They ask you 6 situational questions, and they're not looking for any one right or wrong way of doing things, they just want to know how you think and what you've experienced so far. So the honesty is by far the most important. If you haven't experienced something they ask about, like one of them for me, she broadened it to a general "in life" situation vs a nursing school one: "Describe a time when you worked with a very diverse team. What were the results of this effort, good or bad?" I hadn't worked on terribly diverse teams in school - we were all nursing students from similar backgrounds, so she said ok, and to think about that question in terms of my whole life, if I'd ever done something like that.

Also, when they ask you these situational questions, they're filling in a chart with three categories: what the situation was, what interventions you did, and what the result was. So try to be as thorough in your answer as possible too. That's all I can think of for now! Mine felt like it was over pretty quickly. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing lol
