Emory Fall 09

Published

Is anyone applying or have applied to Emory for the Fall 09 Semester. I have read in other threads from a couple of years ago that if you apply in November that you can here if you are accepted in January. Is that true? I have applied for the second degree program.

icamp99 can i ask u what your gpa is and if you have any medical experience. Y do you think they gave you a not accepted letter.....I still havent got an answer yet....

Sure.....my undergrad. GPA was suppose to have been averaged with my overal graduate level work which would have given me a 3.25. I was applying as a second degree. My first degree was from the 70's with a 2.75 and my graduate level was a 3.5-4.0 I had some med. experience long ago but most of my experience has been as a teacher and administrator. I was hoping to work as a nurse as long as I could then go into the teaching aspect. My pre-req grades have been pretty good....not all A's but A's and B's and I thought that would work. I think probably my age is a pretty big factor but I am not going to let "numbers" get me. Good luck to you and ask anything! I don't mind. Especially if it will help relieve any anxiety!

I received a letter through OPUS.

lcamp99,

I'm sorry to hear the bad news. These programs are so competitive. I know it's so hard to get a rejection letter. Don't take it personally.

Take some time off to regroup and move onto Plan B. Hang in there.

Are waiting to hear back from other programs?

You are so kind! Last night I was pretty down and felt like throwing in the towel but I reminded myself that my dream didn't just hit yesterday.....I have been wanting to become a nurse for MANY years. For this desire to have remained for so long I know that God has planted the seed. I will keep working on my remaining classes and apply to the 3 other BSN programs in the area. I do believe if God intends for this to become a reality for me, He will open the door where I am intended. This is a character builder for me and I can't cave in at the first bump. Thanks for the compassion. Hooray for you and show them all of your good stuff in the fall. :-)

Hei Icamp99,

Just wanted to say, keep it up. I have always believed in the saying that its not how many times you fall, but how you get up that matters. If one door is closed there are many more opened so hang in there and believe that God can do extremely, abundantly, above what we can dream or think of.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the encouragement as well. Right now I am working on equil. acid-base equations in Chem. I am going to keep trudging along and again thank you! I know God has something good in store.

Thanks. I am still waiting for the opportunity from Emory to show them my "good stuff"-hopefully will heard from them tomorrow.

I am also an "older" candidate. Decided to change careers after more than a decade in a different career. I found it hard to develop a cohesive picture of myself that includes my past experience and new passion for nursing. Did you?

I really tried to weave a picture of how my experience as a teacher and leader was a foundation for my nursing. It was hard but looks like I am going to get some more practice in telling the story of how I got to the place where I am today and why it will make me a good nurse. You hang in there and remember....no news is good news. :-)

icamp its ok i know how if feels to be denied, it sux! i applied to ksu and was rejected.....and i'm sure emory will do the same....but you gotta keep on trucken like me....you can always do the associates route and bridge..that is a choice that i am also looking at for myself....do you think i can read your admit essay? and when did you finish all your papers and recommendation?

I would be glad to share with you. I had everything in before Jan. 15. It took one of my references longer than expected to reply and that took my completion date right up to about the 13th or 14th of Jan. I am not sure how to go about e-mailing a document without sending it directly to your personal e-mail. I don't want it to be so the world can see it.....kind of personal....no I will change that.....very personal. I put my heart into getting my essay written and hope it works the next time. Let me know how I can send it privately.

Hei guys,

Has anyone who has now been accepted thought about housing? I am looking for housing. Just wanted to know what the students currently in emory think about housing. Any advice? I don't know what I am going to do. I am looking for something cheaper. I am 33 year old though. I am looking forward to suggestions.
