EMORY ABSN+MSN 2018

Published

So I decided to start a thread for the Fall 2018. Any current/prospective student on here? What GPA did you have when you applied and how competitive is the selection process? If you don't mind sharing your work experience and GRE score, that will be awesome. For those who are enrolled, do you mind sharing your experience?

Congrats on everyone who got in.

Would yall mind sharing yall gpa's? I am taking my prereqs now and would like to apply.

I got in for pediatric primary care with a degree in biology and a minor in psychology (cum GPA of 3.5 and prereq GPA of 3.5). I also had ~1000 hours of work as a medical scribe in two local emergency rooms, a pretty strong essay, and good GRE scores (there was a mix up in getting them waived so I sent them in and it turns out I didn't need them; not sure if they ever looked at them). Hope that's helpful! :)

Thank you! That is helpful, funny thing I work for a medical scribe company but I am not a scribe I work at corporate.

@debt from previous degrees - why is that? Because there's a max for federal loans?

And your response was useful about the deadlines anyway, as I didn't really realize need-based and merit-based would be released at different days. - Ok after checking their website: MSN Financial Aid 217-218 | Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing | University | Atlanta GA it seems that need based and merit will be announced by December 15th

EDIT: Also, does anyone know how fin aid will change as we finish our BSN and start the MSN portion? I feel like we're in a gray area when it comes to financial aid, and it's pretty confusing..

When I spoke to Katie Kennedy, she said that for the BSN Portion we are considered "5th year undergraduate/other" as far as FAFSA goes, and if you are younger than 23, you have to enter your parents financial information. When we start the MSN portion, we are considered graduate students, and you do not have to put your parents financial information. I hope that helps!

I was looking at last years thread and a lot of people declined their acceptance letter due to the cost of the program is Emory willing to help us pay for the tuition cost which is about 180,000$?!?!?!?

They do say on the website they give a lot aid. I guess I'm confused cause I feel like all of these programs are quite spendy so to say Emory is too expensive is comparing it to other almost equally as expensive programs, some even more than Emory. Is there something I'm missing? Like what's the alternative?

Okay it might be an amazing school but to pay that much is crazy I really don't know what to do look at what the other forums were saying

I know that Emory offers some students grants. But, Emory is very comparable to the other private schools I was looking at (Columbia, Penn, Case Western etc). Compared to a state school though, it's going to be more expensive.

You can take out loans. It's your choice. Emory had a large cohort last year actually and I've spoken to some students who love the education they're receiving.

I am pretty sure the cost of attendance is actually close to like 300k (including lets just say 50k for housing)

Hi all!

Just submitted my app! A little nervous due to the fact that my undergrad gpa and GRE scores were very low. But I am currently finishing my Masters degree in Health Science with a great gpa and have received all As in Nursing prerequisites. Any insight on my chances of getting in? (Trying to remain positive)

Whoa that's scary. Where did you get that info?

Hi all!

Finally submitted my application! A little nervous due to the fact that my undergrad gpa and GRE scores were very low. But I am currently finishing my Masters degree in Health Science with a great gpa and have received all As in Nursing prerequisites. With over 5 years of patient care experience. Any insight on my chances of getting in? (Trying to remain positive)

On the website ! I am doing a dual specialty which comes out to like 124 credits total multiplied by about 1817 (cost per credit for this program) = 225k. I am traveling from out of state so travel expenses for three years, apartment/food expenses, and I am definitely keeping my car down there because students who did the program said that it is a huge waste of time and money to be taking the bus from off campus apartments everyday multiple times a day, so all set and done it'll be close to 300k. For those who do not have to worry about travel expenses or housing expenses, it will probably be significantly less!!! However, to go to my in state college for ABSN = 50k, and then I would be required to take a 2 year break to gain some experience, and as a new grad RN, I doubt I would make more than 60k max, and then I would have to go back for MSN to be an NP which is another 2 years. And for my MSN who knows where I would get in/I would have to worry about taking the GRE/MSN programs are generally expensive anyways. The extra cost I spend going to Emory will probably be made up by making a larger salary as an NP a few years earlier than if I did the other route. Sorry this is tons of info but I have tried to do my research and not get too overwhelmed by the cost hahah
