EMORY ABSN+MSN 2018

Published

So I decided to start a thread for the Fall 2018. Any current/prospective student on here? What GPA did you have when you applied and how competitive is the selection process? If you don't mind sharing your work experience and GRE score, that will be awesome. For those who are enrolled, do you mind sharing your experience?

But I agree with you completely. The cost of education is expensive in this county so you gotta do what needs to be done to survive. Even if that means taking out loans. Hopefully, the quality of education received will pay off in future income and professional satisfaction.

In this country, unfortunately, everyone is burdened with student debt. And yes, with how the way things are going right now, if you want to make more money, you just have to keep grinding :(

Of course NPs don't make up to 175k. You can't compare both careers like that. Most NPs also don't complete residencies. Med students have the potential to make more money because they spend YEARS undergoing schooling and training. That is fair. Most NPs focus on treating acute diseases and preventing signs of chronic illnesses before they refer patients off to physicians.

I agree with you. My argument here is that NP programs should cost less than MD programs precisely for the reasons you provided. However, that is not the case with some NP programs that cost almost as much or even more than some MD/DO programs. But that's the academic landscape we have to deal with now. There's demand for NP degrees and the cost of these programs will keep going up slightly each year, because there are folks like me (full disclosure) who are on the waitlist hoping that someone is qualified enough to get into multiple schools and select a school other than Emory. #ineedyourspot jk lol but, seriously.

I think Emory is on the high end right? I was surprised to see that Emory's cost is higher than Columbia's tuition, since Columbia is considered one of the best. But yeah, NP programs should cost less. I heard that Emory does give out grants and scholarships so only one can hope.... haha. But if I get into another school, then I'll drop Emory and hopefully you'll get my spot :)

I was accepted into the ABSN + MSN program for the midwifery specialty. I've applied to 5 other schools, I have a interview at UPenn, waiting to hear from others still.

Emory is my top choice but I'm holding out of other decisions and fin aid.

I requested the facebook group. Hope to talk to some of you soon!

Anyone care to comment what they're expecting to hear back in regards to fin aid?

If you had a FAFSA EFC of, let's say, 25k, would Emory, in their spirit of covering 100% of financial need, give you grants or scholarships for the rest of the program? So 75k if it's 100k/year? I'm a little clueless and am having a hard time finding a straight answer here. I just wanna know how likely it is to get grants instead of loans I guess.

According to their website:

"Students who submit their application by the priority scholarship consideration deadline (October 15, 2017), will hear about potential scholarship opportunities in mid-late December 2017. Need-based financial aid decisions will be released beginning in mid-January 2018."

I see now that you are asking about "how much funding we get" and not "when we will hear back." I am not sure how much they will cover. I think most students take out personal loans to pay for the entire program. It all depends on how much debt you still have from your previous degrees.

@debt from previous degrees - why is that? Because there's a max for federal loans?

And your response was useful about the deadlines anyway, as I didn't really realize need-based and merit-based would be released at different days. - Ok after checking their website: MSN Financial Aid 217-218 | Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing | University | Atlanta GA it seems that need based and merit will be announced by December 15th

EDIT: Also, does anyone know how fin aid will change as we finish our BSN and start the MSN portion? I feel like we're in a gray area when it comes to financial aid, and it's pretty confusing..

When's the deadline for the deposit?

When's the deadline for the deposit?

March 1st. It was said earlier in this thread at least one or two times
