EMORY ABSN+MSN 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

So I decided to start a thread for the Fall 2017. Any current/prospective student on here? What GPA did you have when you applied and how competitive is the selection process? If you don't mind sharing your work experience and GRE score, that will be awesome. For those who are enrolled, do you mind sharing your experience?

oh whoa, i just looked at my checklist and noticed that the GRE part was taken away. sweeeeeeeet. i'm an emory alum so i've "unofficially" already been automatically accepted to the program (so long as i had a 3.0+ gpa during undergrad) but it's nice to know that i don't have to take the GRE to seal the deal. mega-sweet. however, i most likely won't be going unless finaid pulls a miracle and gives me a killer package to convince me to stay.

Congrats! I am an alum too--got my acceptance letter earlier this week! I am worried about the financial aid too! It's a lot of money to invest AFTER already investing in the Emory degree...However, I have heard that certain hospitals will help cover loans, and hopefully, financial aid will be realistic about how much we can afford (since I will be over 24, I no longer have to list my parents' income on FAFSA). However, I am reluctant to send in the student action form until i know about financial aid...

Pretty sure they've taken a look at my transcript because now my prereqs have turned to green, but my GRE is still not waived... anyone have any thoughts as to why?

I am also in the same boat. When I did the tour the girl said they had to calculate your GPA. Idk what that meant or why they would have to do it again but maybe that's why. Hopefully we are both ok and get it waived.

I am not exactly sure if they recalculate gpa or just use the one on your undergraduate transcript. They updated my page with green checks and GRE is greyed out and says "waived". If you are worried about this, ask them.

Ok thanks ill call them Friday and if you don't mind me asking what was your GPA?Also was your GRE waived the same day as your classes ?

Undergrad GPA is 4.0. Yes It was waived the same day everything turned green.

Hello everyone,

I submitted my application in early September, which sounds late compared to everyone else here. My undergrad GPA was a low 3.2 in criminology but received a 3.9 in my Master's in crim and received a 4.0 in both EMT and paramedic school and 3.95 in all of my post bac work. I too am waiting to see if my GRE can be waived. I am worried about my low undergrad GPA, but have worked as a EMT and paramedic for 9 years as well as taught paramedic pharmacology and EMT school at the local community college. I have no idea what my chances are, but everyone here seems very competitive. I am still waiting on some of my prerequisites to turn into green checks. I am worried because I have two different transcripts that have two college's each on them (being sister schools). Only one of each of these transcripts was checked as received. I have emailed them regarding this but have not heard back or seen in a change in status since. I am not trying to get my hopes up, but I am starting to get nervous about the process. Good luck to everyone!

I honestly think you will be fine and get in. You have a lot of experience that over shadows your undergrad GPA and also you did awesome when getting your first Masters and in EMT and paramedic school. I called them about the GRE wavier and they stated they were still looking at everything but we should know before the 15th if we need to take it. IDK how true that is but we will see. I honestly think you will get in tho . What specialty are you trying to get it in to?

Thank you for the kind words. I actually finally got a hold of someone on the phone today after trying via email and phone a couple of times and got some of my transcript issues worked out on the spot. I think that calmed me down a bit :) I would like to go for the Acute + Primary gerontology major. I think that interests me the most.

I actually have a question for everyone...Did you all select which specialty you would like to pursue on the application? Because while I have an idea of what I would like to go for, I don't remember any specific area to place a preference. Is this something we try and apply for once admitted or before moving toward the MSN portion? Thanks for the heads up. I hope I didn't miss anything important.

Hey I am a Nursing Fellow at Emory University. We are very sorry about your inconvenience and frustration you are experiencing with the application process. Could you please email [email protected] with your name and date when you applied and that you still have Red X's. We will be happy to assist you once we receive your email. Again, we are sincerely sorry about the inconvenience.

Unfortunately, this has been the worst experience I have had with application. I applied on July 1, and everything still shows red X's. I don't know what to make out of it. My BS is in respiratory therapy and 4.0 GPA. I held 4 leadership positions, ICU experience, two published abstracts, lots of volunteer works that include teaching asthma kids in underserved community how to manage their asthma and also voluteered at pulmonary fibrosis foundation. I also worked as a research assistant and peer tutor during undergrad. I still don't understand why they have not looked at my transcript to at least check off prereqs since July 1. I have called a million times and was told everything is okay from my end.
