Emory ABSN/MSN 2016 Program

Published

Hi everyone,

I thought I would get a thread started for the Emory ABSN/MSN 2016 application cycle. I am going to the information session next Friday, July 24th for the program.

Has anyone else started to get ready for this application cycle?

Anyone know of a direct way to contact admissions? I really want to ask the status of the waitlist.

Go to their office?

Go to their office?

That would be quite the flight from Washington state to ask a question. But thanks for the suggestion.

I'm feeling pretty disrespected by the admissions department, honestly. I've been on the waitlist since I submitted my application in late November, completed a video interview, and was placed on the waitlist again. Since then, I've heard nothing from them. The lack of communication from their department has led me to write off this school, as making a move from California is a huge commitment to the only school I applied to that has not released its final decision. Committed to an ABSN program. My heart goes out to those still waiting!

I hear ya! I would be moving from Seattle. I called the office yesterday and they told me that the admissions committee is actively reviewing the wait list. I questioned how prepared a student could be to start if it's possible to get a decision up to a day before classes start; I was just told "I'm sure the staff would work with you if that happened". To her credit, the woman that answered the phone was very pleasant. You sound like you have other schools lined up, so good luck for those!

Hey guys, I am a student worker from the office and noticed several of the threads. The office definitely would not want anyone to feel disrespected, but please keep in mind the waitlist is an *active list* up until the first day of class. So you will either be notified if you have been offered a position off of the list, or will receive a final notification that admission into the AMSN program from the waitlist has been officially closed on the first day of classes. If you are not comfortable waiting, then it is understandable if you accept an offer elsewhere. However, if you do have any questions about your application, please contact the office at 404-727-7980 and staff member will take a message and a counselor will follow up with you as soon as possible. Good luck!

Thank you for the response. It is refreshing that Emory addressed the comments in a positive way.

Someone I know was waitlisted at another Georgia School last year and posted that he was frustrated with the lack of communication. He applied again this year and not only did the admissions committee tell him to remove the posts, they then rejected him outright. Pretty sure it was because of his post saying he was frustrated.

Just a friendly reminder, administrations do read these posts and you never know how they will react.

@XAMX I do understand that what anyone posts online is not private. However, these forums were created so that people experiencing similar situations can share their experiences openly in order to support each other through a stressful time. I don't know how your friend reacted to that rejection, but if a school is more worried about people expressing frustration on an online forum than eliminating that prospective student's frustration, it would not be a school I would feel comfortable attending.

Kcullen1313 -- I concur 100%! The pettyness was revealing, particularly because frustration is a valid emotion to express when your future is in limbo and information is not forthcoming. We learned a lot from it.

Hey guys!

Just wanted to let you know I declined my offer of admission "officially" a week ago after submitting my deposit a while back. I sent them an email over 2-3 weeks ago with no response and finally called them to ask if they received it.

Really hoping my spot goes out to one of you, good luck everyone :)

Well, I believe the program starts next week. Anyone on the wait list heard anything?
