Hello all,
This is my first time posting to the forum. I am currently a BSN student in an accelerated 2 year program in Puerto Rico. It is a trimester program and I am halfway through my second trimester. I'm trying to figure out at what point in my program I'll be eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam. Ideally I'd like to work as an LPN in California this summer. I have a job lined up if I can get the license in time, but I just don't know if that's possible. I've been searching online but haven't found anything. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

First you have to find out if the state where you want to be licensed accepts this route of licensing for the LPN license. Then you have to get your school to sign off on the application. Not all schools will do this for their students. I seriously doubt that a school in Puerto Rico would be willing to do this, but it does not hurt to ask. CA does allow people to test for the LVN license with RN education. Go to the CA BVNPT website to read about the requirements. It is all there.
Thanks! I found the application on the CA BVNPT website. I'll check it out with my school after break. I'm still a little confused what parts of my RN schooling must be completed before I'm eligible, but I'll keep looking.

Check out method 3 on the ways to qualify. Your school will have to complete the nursing form with the theory and clinical hours completed with a transcript. Since all nursing programs are different, the Board cannot tell at what point in a particular program you would qualify for the LVN.

You need to talk to the CA BVNPT to see if you are eligible to challenge the NCLEX-PN:
Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians - main site
BVNPT - Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) - licensing info
