I have been studying for NCLEX and having a hard time remembering the cardiac changes when the electrolyes are out of whack. I came up with this and thought I would post it thinking it might help someone else (the high arrow for some reason would not transfer when I copied/pasted so I used what I had :icon_roll:

Cardiac changes by electrolyte level

ST - depressed

-K -Mg

Stacy was depressed, her friends kira and maggie were too

ST - Shortened

:up:Ca

Cal liked stacys short skirts

ST - Prolonged

- Ca

but cal didn't like to wait

QT - prolonged

-Ca

cal didn't like to wait for any cutie

PR - prolonged

:up:K :up:Mg

kira and maggie were proud of her for waiting

U - wave

-K

Kira said just u wave goodbye

P - flat

:up:K

I want to punch him flat

T - Widened

:up:Ca

Cal may be tall, but he will get wide someday

T - tall

:up:K -Mg

Maggie doesn't like tall men, but Kira does

T - shallow, flat

-K

kira doesn't like her flat/shallow chest even though she is tall

QRS - widened

:up:K  Mg

but both liked the wide receiver Qris

FYI Just in case you can't figure it out: the down arrow refers to the hypo condition of the electrolyte, the  refers to the hyper condition. The story on the bottom is just a story that helps me remember what kind of changes you might see with each electrolyte level. I had this on a chart, but it wouldn't transfer to this forum.

Hope it helps someone!

Lisa
