i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.

my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)

Specializes in Nephrology.

I am doing MedSurg Immune and Musculoskeletal- any other suggestions?

What would you guys do if you hadn't heard from your instructor and you were unsure about going up to 2 patients but you thought you heard her say that you should go up to 2 patients this week? Would you go ahead and pick 2 patients or would you pick the 1 and explain to her that you were unsure? I picked 2 patients but I am not sure if I was supposed to and I don't want to do the extra paperwork and then come in to find out we were only supposed to pick 1. Some people think she didn't say that but I thought she had because we missed clinical due to the snow day. AAAHH!! I don't know what to do! I finished the one careplan stuff but I don't know if I should start on the second...but then again- I already told the charge nurse I was taking those 2 patients....what to do....what to do.....

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

Is there any way to get in touch with the teacher and ask?

We're doing 2 patients with 1 dx, or 1 pt with 2 dx.

However, for PP, we are suppose to have 2 patients, and for M/S, we're suppose to have 2 patients.

I would go ahead and do the paper work for 2 patients. If nothing else, you can learn a little more as you do it. :uhoh3:

Now....maybe a 3rd semester student could give you better advice. LOL

I think you should finish both pt's paperwork and call/write the instructor, too.

Our teacher is a little out there with expectations. We have to write pathos for each diagnosis they have ever had and how the all relate to each other. Then we have to have at least 3 dx for each patient. It's a lot of paperwork. Only 3 of my other classmates are doing the paperwork for 2 and the rest are saying they didn't hear her say to go up to 2. I have emailed her and tried to call her but haven't heard any answer. I guess I will write up both and learn something along the way...........:stone

It sucks when you have to learn something that way. lol

So, semester 2...... 6 Dx's? Oh crap!

Maybe I should start planning stuff now....let's see, C/S: Ineffective airway, risk of infection, etc.....hahahahahahaha

My teacher just called me back FINALLY and told me we DO have to pick 2 patients tomorrow. Thank goodness I did! There were a lot of people who will have to go back up to the hospital. I don't know if it's that way for all 3rd semester clinicals with the at least 3 dx but my instructor is that way...BTW, Mi'Shelle- how did you like Ms A? She's my clinical instructor :D

Specializes in Operating Room.

How many do y'all have to have for your Major? 12 Dx? :roll

I like Ms. A. She is very helpful, and structured. I like that.

...And contrary to what some heard, yes, she does smile. :chuckle

I don't even know yet for the major and I'm not worrying about that quite yet!

She is very helpful and very knowledgeable and very nice. I am really happy I got her this semester. Hopefully I will be saying the same thing at the end of all of this!! :roll
