i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
I've just logged on eConnect today, and I've noticed that under 'Plan My Schedule' there are my nursing classes. :) There is also a due date for paying tuition. According to my schedule list, McCarty will be both my lecture and clinical instructor. :)Katie
McCarty was my clinical and my lecture instructor for first semester too. You'll be glad you got him :)
Yeah I looked at econnect today also and I noticed that my clinical instructor listed is not the same as the clinical instructor I registered for at the orientation. I don't even know who the teacher is...it's a B. Arnold and it was supposed to be Darensbourg.....hmm....
I think McCarty is such a sweetheart. I met him a couple of weeks ago and I wish he was at EC for the Spring....I'm happy for you, Katie!
Has anyone tried out some shoes? I just went and tried on every kind imaginable at different scrubs stores and I really REALLY liked Danskos ( I think that's what they are called)...some people on the boards are going on and on about Nurse Mates but I was not really impressed with them as much as the Danskos...my feet are wide and flat so it's very difficult to find the right shoe....anyone else have any other suggestions??? :)
Arnold-Darensbourg are the same person. :) I think one is her maiden name and the other her married name or something but everywhere I have seen, I have always seen both of those names together. :)
The shoes that I bought are Quark and they are really lightweight.

No I got the ones with the backs on. :) I've always liked that style better than the backless ones. I can't always keep the backless ones on! lol I only spent $49.99 plus tax getting the Quarks. One thing I have noticed is that it is tight on my upper foot at first but hopefully it will get better once I wear it more.
Yeah I saw the Quarks also...they are very light!!! I was tossing them at my husband and he was amazed at how light they were...did you get backless ones??
Brie2200, good luck with the THR program. I just finished the program and it is awesome............and difficult. But anything worth having is. The THR program is awesome because all of your skills are front loaded for the semester, meaning you dont have check-offs all semester long. This also means you can order your scrubs in early January and still have plenty of time. It is also nice to have ALL of your books handed to you on your official orientation day. THR also does a Pharm class through El Centro for credit or CE, not required but very handy for your Pharm tests every semester. I hope this shines a little light for you if you have any questions feel free to ask. Heath

I am so excited to actually get to talk to someone who has completed THR's program!!! Congrats to you...I have so many questions!! Which hospital did you attend? I put Harris as my first choice because it's alot closer to me. Have you taken the NCLEX, and do you feel that you were prepared? I have an appointment with Joan on thursday to turn in my application. She told me that the official orientation day will be Jan 3. Do you think there will be enough time to order scrubs? I believe THR is starting on the 16th or 17th. Nan told me that they will have the acceptance letters mailed out by Dec 21st. I am so nervous....
Brie2200, Yes there will be plenty of time to order scrubs. Clinical doesnt start until mid to late Feb. so you have plenty of time. I havent taken nclex yet as our Hesi test is not until 12-16-05, the exit exam for the program. I did do clinicals 1 and 2 semester @ HEB, wich is not option for first semester any more. I did my 3rd semester clinicals @ HMSW, and this past semester i was @ HFW in the ER. It is a good program and you will learn alot, just be prepared to study most of the people in my class were 4.0 students when they started and have earned a few b's and c's since starting. Take a deep breath and enjoy your time off, you will miss it shortly but itis worth it. Later Heath
