i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
Yesterday's orientation was interesting to say the least. I don't know how many A students can be so dumb sometimes. It seemed like the dumb questions were going to last forever! That's besides the point but it just really baffled me....
I finally got to meet Jenn but I didn't know where Christy was???
We got fitted for our scrubs and I chose the same outfit Katie did. I am supposed to get black shoes so I hope I can find some black nursing shoes. They said we could also get black tennis shoes.
Our textbook pack was pretty cool b/c we get the printed textbook and get it on the computer. You can search for words and it will tell you what textbook that word is mentioned and how many times and then you can click on it and it will take you directly to that page. I thought that was pretty neat...that was a new thing this semester.
We only had 3 hospitals to choose from. The VA, IHS (which is a rehab center), and Mesquite Community. I got the VA because that seemed like the most interesting place out of the choices. I didn't get Galloway...I got Darensbourg?? I have never heard of her but someone told me after the fact that she was really sweet....the students there recommended Galloway if you really want to learn stuff but her schedule didn't really work out with mine. We are in school pretty much every day so I don't know how I will keep my job... I guess God has it figured out for me and worrying is useless!
I won one of those t-shirts (RN-2B) it was pretty cool...I really wanted to win the drug cards though! Oh well, I am happy with my tshirt :)

I already have black Reebok shoes. I will wear those.
I am thinking about buying new textbooks with the CDs from the college bookstore, too. (Even if the used ones were cheaper.)
According to my tentative schedule I have class/skills/clinical every day, but Tuesday. It's going to be a busy semester.
Katie
Yeah, my schedule is crazy like that too. I think Mondays are my days off before we go to clinicals and then Fridays are my days off after that 8th week. I have to be at the VA at 7 Tues. & Wed. Katie, what is your schedule at Presby???
I think I am going to buy those computer textbooks also...he did a good job selling the product! haha
They didn't have the nursing magazine at our orientation...

Hey Allison! I was so busy worrying about which instructor I would end up with and trying on my "lovely" uniform that I didn't get to look for anyone. I was sitting in the middle and toward the back. I saw someone winning the shirt up front, but I didn't get to see you. (unless you were wearing these cool brown boots???) I had to by mine. I guess we'll see each other in lecture. I heard good things about Darensbourg, but was told to avoid the VA, so I went with Stahl at IHS. I think I made the right choice. We'll both have Galloway for lecture, so I'll see you and Jenn in January!
Hey Christy!
Yes that was me that won the shirt. I don't think I got up very much so that's probably why you didn't see me. I wish I had some cool brown boots lol but I don't I was number 29 and I didn't get called until the second to the last group so all that was left was the VA. I have a friend that works there so she can guide me around the place....I can at least get to it off of the rail so that was nice for me. So you have the 6:45 shift? YIKES! I guess you won't have to worry about traffic!!! :rotfl:
To my understanding someone will be registering us and then we just go and pay? I just want to make sure....
Are you taking the math class and the studying class? Jenn and I are taking both...I sure would just like to have that test over with!
Katie, what is your schedule at Presby???They didn't have the nursing magazine at our orientation...
Thursday-Friday 6.45am-3.15pm.
The "Future Nurse" has mostly hospital ads. The most useful part is the list of drug names that look or sound alike. I can scan that page and send it in email.
I wish I could take those extra math and study classes. I will be out of country...
Katie
Katie,
What hospitals did you guys have to choose from? It seems like you made a good choice! I got to meet McCarty at a teacher appreciation meal I put together on Tuesday and he was the sweetest person. He kept congratulating me and saying I would be a great nurse hahaha. He came and spoke at our orientation and was just so soft spoken that no one could really hear him. I hope you enjoy his class!
I would love to have that scanned to me if you don't mind. Whenever you have time is okay with me. Thank you so much for the offer.
I wish there was a way I could help you out with the math and study classes but I wouldn't know how to help you out. I can send you the notes and literature we get in class if that would help. Where are you going?
Glad the EC orientation went well. Did you ask about the cargo scrub pants?
(If I get in for the Fall 06 semester, I hope the hospitals are closer ones.) lol
The VA will offer a variety of things to learn about just as the others do, and you will be taking care of our wonderful Veterans as well.
Good luck to you all...only 2 months away! (Nervous yet?) :chuckle
