i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
I guess I'm worried more so about test 4 because of the material. What are you focusing on? I just feel that there isn't enough time from now to the next test and the final. Plus, I totally bombed the first test, so I have to go back through all of that material because it will be on the final. And on top of all that, I haven't started Christmas shopping and I have to take speech this wintermester!!!
How would you answer these questions?
How did you study for the first test?
How did you study for the third test?
What are the differences?
Can you commit your time to study for the remaining two tests?
Don't worry about wintermester and shopping now.
I will start listening to the lectures and reading my notes today. I will also start doing NCLEX type questions. I do finish about 150-200 questions before each test.
Edit: my instructor recommended we make a chart about the diseases. It helps compare and contrast them.

Yes I can commit to studying, but I just don't know what's the most important to focus on. Incubation times, communicability, etc???? The first test, I didn't know everything that I should have known thouroughly (did I spell that right?) and she was more detailed than I expected on the test. I read over half of my notes last night and will finish today and start doing some questions. I don't have as many questions for this test as the others... I guess I just knew more details on test 2 & 3 than I did on the first one. I'm extremely nervous...

Brianna,
Yes, I really do believe that you can make it this semester. We have some people sitting at a 75 average right now believing that they can make it. Mind set is half the battle.
About the childhood diseases- the chart idea from Katie was really a great idea. They basically all have the same incubation times which helps. It would probably be better to learn the ones that have different incubation times. There are only going to be 50 questions on the test and a lot of material which generally means that the questions will be pretty basic and general; at least from my experience with these tests.
I know you need to make your decision quickly as today is the drop date. If I were you, I would stick with it. You've said you've got the committment and we all know you have the smarts to go with it which is a great formula for passing this semester.
I know what messes me up is when I start calculating how many questions I can miss before I am considered failing and I usually do poorly on those exams. When I focus on learning this material because I need to know it for the betterment of my career, my grades always rise up.
Like Katie said- do not worry about Christmas shopping right now. You need to focus on these next tests. Yes, you will need to focus more on the stuff from the first test for the final but everyone will need to also. You really can do this!!!
I'll be at Mesquite Community. It wasn't my first choice, but I was #46 of 50, so I got what was left. Maybe I'll fare better on choices next semester. I was just hoping somebody might be able to tell me what to expect. I've heard about some of the teachers, but I haven't even heard that one mentioned. And thanks for the congratulations! I'm finally getting excited about it. So much has been going on at home, that it hadn't really had time to sink in.

I'm 2nd semester at El Centro so it's good to see some fellow El Centro campus people :) I asked some of my other friends if they'd heard of Marshall but no one had heard that name. I think new teachers are the best because they haven't been "corrupted" yet :rotfl: I am always here if you ever have any questions!! I wish you the best of luck!!!
Thanks so much. We had Ally from 2nd semester talk about SNA today. Are you in SNA and does it seem to be pretty good if you are? I would love any helpful tips you have. I'm starting a second career and have a six year old daughter at home that keeps me busy, so I'll need all the help I can get. I've read through some of the old posts, so I sort of feel like I know some of you already...lol. Thanks for your good wishes. I'm sure I'll be coming and asking all kinds of questions.

One other silly question. Kanora mentioned during the orientation no acrylic nails. Any idea why? If they're short and unpolished, what's the problem? Is there some nursing rule about them? Just curious as I've had mine on for, well let's just say well over a decade. My cuticles get in horrible condition when I don't wear them as I'm a cuticle picker. It won't be pretty if I have to go without them.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement.... Do you really believe I can make it??? You don't have to sugar-coat it for me...:rotfl: I just get really nervous and depressed about school sometimes. I fear that I will end up with a D and will have to start over and apply to get back in.
THR is different because the majority of people who fail or quit, do not get back in. I would be very thankful for a C!! I guess I'm worried more so about test 4 because of the material. I would not want to have to do virtual clincals again.... that was very boring and time-consuming!!!! :chuckle
