El Centro Spring 2009 Admissions

U.S.A. Texas

Published

The purpose of this thread is to share information about El Centro Spring 2009 admission process, preparation for the first semester.

Do you not have a social security card?

Bortaz,

This site/thread is to share information about El Centro program, not my or anyone else personal information. Having said that, everyone has right to know how ssn will be used whenever it is given.

Unless you have question about El Centro program to ask or you have a answer to someone else's questions, stay away from this thread.

Fun2Care,

Thanks for response in great detail. One follow up question on the above quote, so you never had to show your social security card and give your number to anyone at any point? Also, which hospital you had your clinicals at? I really appreciate your reponses.

Thanks.

I really can't say whether I had to show my SS card/#....I don't remember. I do know that there were some students who only had VISAS to go to school here. Therefore, they wouldn't had have a SS#.

Your best bet would be to call Kanora at ECC, and talk to her about any questions you may have about this, or anything else.

I had clinical at the VA, Parkland, UTSW-St. Paul, and UTSW-Zale Lipshy.

You may want to contact the Texas Board of Nursing to ask any questions that may arise also. You don't want to go through school, and then find out something may hinder your taking the NCLEX.

Unfortunately, you posted this on a public forum, and are not in charge of who posts in this thread. If you'd like to keep your thread limited only to the the answers/people you want to hear, maybe you should have used the private message system or email.

I was attempting to determine whether your question was derived from the fact that you did not, in fact, have a SS number. I would have, upon hearing your answer, gone on to give you the information I have found in regards to what you'd need to do to work around your lack of a number.

As it turned out, however, you lack the social skills required for internet communication, and as far as I'm concerned, you can do your own research from now on. Or remain ignorant.

How my question garnered such an asinine response is beyond me.

Special thanks to Fun2Care for lot of information.

I think most likely I will get in based on my GPA. However in case I don't get in, do they return whole application package submitted, including scores reports and immunization proofs? Anyone has experience?

Thanks.

I believe you can go up there to pick up the package.....whole.

It's been a while, but I think that's the deal. :)

wow!

not a very nice reply.

I am also a former El Centro Student, but your way of responding to other people, just made me not want to even try to say anything anymore.

rncareer, why are you being so defensive to being asked a simple question that was not unreasonable given your questions?

FWIW, at the information session she said that you do have to have a ss number to apply to the program and to do clinicals at the hospital; it is how they track everything, compliants, etc.

I have applied with NL as my first choice but will go to either campus... I just want to get in. What's everyone's gpa? I have a 3.6, I hope it's good enough!

I just wish rncareer(the OP) could apologise for bieng a little defensive and rude so that the thread could go on. When i first read this thread it seemed like it would be such a good source of info from all those who are already in the program or have finished but it somehow lost track!! Anyway what do i know!!!

To MissB08 and anyone else who has questions about ECC/NL ... there are several threads where people from both campuses post updates and such. I suppose it's because once you're in the program, we (the students) learn that the faculty isn't much help at all. I'm in my 4th semester right now, and have been at both ECC and NL campus for nursing.

Like Fun said, it's tough, but (so far for me) it's been doable.

Hi and good luck to each of you. I graduated from the El Centro program this past May.

I went to NLC, by choice, because 1) it's a nicer campus, 2) it's NOT in downtown Dallas, 3) there aren't homeless people asking for money. grrrrrr

(Also because I had always attended NLC because I grew up in Irving.)

It doesn't matter which campus you get put in. You are still going to graduate with the rest of the El Centro graduates (if you finish in May). If you finish in December, you'll get a pinning ceremony with the El Centro nursing students bunch.

The program is the same at both...meaning they teach the same stuff. One isn't better than the other.

You are considered an ECC student once you are accepted into the program, even if you go to NLC. Therefore, you can go to ECC to get a free Dart pass as well.

SS#....not sure, but some of the hospitals REQUIRE you passport to be CURRENT, or you WILL NOT get to do your clinical there. (Such as the VA.) Heed this warning all the way through because there are seniors every semester that do not get to do clinical their 4th semester, and must go back the next semester for clinical only.

I doubt a SS# is required, but some sort of method to do your background check would be. I doubt every ECC/NLC nursing student is a US citizen.

Our semester, the GPA was 3.77, and the one before 4.0. (I got denied with a 3.77, and had to retake a class and apply with a 4.0...Of course, then 3.77 was accepted...lol) I do believe the required GPA has gone WAYYYYYYYYYY down!

It is a living HADES, but always remember, it is doable. ....That keeps you going to know that there are other people who successfully finished the program.

Again, good luck to each of you.

I bet this drives you crazy... Entrance scores have dropped drastically since you applied. For Fall 2008, El Centro accepted a 3.1 and Northlake accpted a 2.6

Only 26 people applied at Northlake for Fall 2008 and everyone was accepted. There was a flood of late registration when word got out and they didnt accept anyone. Instead, the called up old applicants up to 2 years ago that did not get in (with a 4.0) and invited them. They were able to call enough people and filled the spots. Ah well...I didnt get in with late registration.

Anyways, letters went out today...Hope Im in.

Yes, it does frustrate me! (No offense to those who really want to get in with a 2.6, but I got denied with a 3.77! I had to reapply with a 4.0!!!!)

Oh well....better luck next time to you....there or anywhere.
