Hey pecked don't forget we are supposed to check the bulletin board for the supply list for skills class. She also said the first check off is baths and gave us a list of supplies for that. SHe also mentioned a black vis-a-vis marker and a pen light. Is anyone going to take one of the HDEV classes to help prepare for 1st semester?
You will continue to have skills lab while going to clinical, but 2 skills lab classes will condense to one....can't remember the #'s.
So, instead of like 3 days of skills lab, you'll end up having one, plus one or two days of clinical. .....AT LEAST, THIS IS HOW IT WAS FOR US WHO DIDN'T HAVE TO HAVE HPRS!!!!!!!!!!!! It may be totally different for y'all!!!
I like to wear a long sleeved-black turtle neck during the cool months, and a non-turtle neck long-sleeved shirt during warmer months. (It can be cool at hospitalsl...if not, I can push the sleeves up.)
Wear black undershirts...some teachers may not mind, but black looks so much better! You'll definitely need a pen light, bandage scissors are always a plus. I ordered mine all from ebay! You can also get the SNA bag that has alot of this combined in a nice bag.
vis-a-vis markers were a P.I.A........I ended up getting a package of dry erase markers for skills labs!
Black socks....Ok...black shoes & black pants...yeah...black socks looks so much better! I recommend going to get at least knee-high diabetic socks from Wal-mart, if not support knee-highs! ...This is for men or women! You will be standing a lot!!! Don't get the full support hose, as some people say they get a little 'itchy' and 'sweaty' where you don't want to be grabbing at all day. Get the knee-highs....I haven't tried the thigh-highs though. :)
If ever there's anything 'to see' in clinical, make sure you ask to see it!!! The more you see, the more you learn!!! :monkeydance:
THE OLD GUY....ok...now you have my curiosity built up....what'd ya get?
Ooh, I know - the uniforms & orientation did make it start to feel "real"! Speaking of uniforms, I guess they are shipping them to our individual homes? Sorry, I guess I was too excited & nervous about clinical selections to pay attention...Be sure to let everyone know when you receive yours so we can be watching for them!
I'm not sure who all this applies to since the bookstore manager said there would be 2 shipments of books, but I bought my box of books the day of orientation. In it was a voucher for one of the books that was not available when they were packing the boxes. I went up there yesterday & the bookstore manager said she was unaware of this & copied my voucher so she can ask the supplier about it. The other books that she told us were not in the box but were required are also not in yet.
And finally, there is nothing of value on the bulletin board except ads for used books, etc. I will be going up there probably every Monday or Tuesday just to check. I will do my best to let you all know of any important findings.
Anybody signing up for the Keys to Success class?
See y'all soon!

I bought other pants in 2nd semester...a pair with a bit of flair. haha I need to get another pair or two this semester. Black pants fade easily!
As far as the bulletin board, it's the marker board on the other side that you will need to look at to see changes having to do with your clinical/skills/room numbers, etc. I'm sure Iris just has HPRS stuff on there right now, if anything.
Pecked..love the pic!
I know y'all are getting excited, scared, etc....I'm going in 3rd semester and STILL feel that way!!! Best wishes to all of you!!!!!
I haven't heard of a hospital or instructor being that strict. However, I know one hospital requires white uniforms. (Plano, I think.)
I've never asked ahead of time. I just never was told differently...not one instructor told me that I had to wear the ones bought from that Oklahoma company.
How does everyone's uniforms fit? I was pretty excited to model my scrubs and lab coat for everyone...starting to seem real now! AAAHHH!!!We should be able to print our schedules tomorrow after 3pm too.
Hey Pecked, did yours come via shipping? I'm still waiting for mine. Are you NLC or ECC?
