C'mon peeps, where are you all? There are posts for every other ECC/NL class. We need our own too.

Anyone else starting in the Fall '07?

El Centro - Fall '07

Specializes in Emergency Department.

Today was kinda cool...I got to D/C some staples from my patient. She had about 23 in all but I just removed every other one and then applied steri-strips. It was my only interesting procedure thus far. I am still waiting to do a foley, bolus feeding or IV D/C..maybe those will come before end of semester. My patient was great and I decided to use her for my major care plan...woohoo...good day!

What have the rest of you been doing?

Hello, I am starting in Spring 08. I was wondering which teacher and/or hospital should I try to get. Also if anyone has any suggestions on how to study for test and any techniques that will help me next semeter. What are some good books to get to help me through the next couple of years. Should I purchase the books in a box or try and get them online and will all the books be used.

Send me a private message with the name of your 1st semester instructors. About studying: it helps if you do NCLEX type questions before each unit test. There is a good fundamental Q&A nursing book out there. If you want to read your textbooks on your computer the box set is a good deal for you. If you want to save money buy the textbooks online and used. And good luck. :balloons: Katie

Congrats on your acceptance,

the book Katie is referring to, is called Fundamentals Success, and it is very good. In first semester you will be exposed to NCLEX type questions for the first time, which are so different than what you are used to from prereqs. This book really helps and has all subjects covered for first semester with nothing but questions and rationals. It is definitely worth the money. You can also invest in a good NCLEX review book (Saunders Review is very good), this will help you over the course of your 2 years and for NCLEX. It has some fundamentals in it, but not as in depth as the above mentioned book.

Here is a link to that book: http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Success-Applying-Critical-Thinking/dp/0803610564/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1195657640&sr=1-1

I bought the box of books with CD the first semester, but did not utilize the Cd's very much, so for me it was a waste of money. And from then on I have been buying all my books used on Amazon, and only spend about half of what the box cost each semester. I have not missed the Cd's.

I bought the book box and wish I hadn't. I have used very very little of the books from it. I won't buy them in the future. I got the red Fundamentals book also, which was a big help - some of the exact questions are on the tests too, which is nice. Also, I got a Drug book (must have for clinicals) and an NCLEX review book (haven't used it any yet).

Another thing I would have done different...not to buy the scrub pants from ECC. I bought some and they are hideous. I got some others at the Scrubs and Beyond store in Mesquite and they are so much better.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Just wanted to let y'all know that I spoke with Kanora today and they are going to LATE APPLICATIONS for Spring 08. So if you know someone that was taking a class or retaking a class to get in and will be finished by - I believe - Dec 20, let them know. The HESI and HRPS are the culprits....

Thanks to everyone for the advice, I am nervous and excited at the same time. If that is even possible. I will definitely get the books to help me out.

I use the book box CD's, and hardly ever open the books.

I like to be able to put a word in, and the evolve software searches for that word in all the books. That way you can get all the info for a certain topic, without having to read pages and pages trying to find something that may not be in the glossary or index.

How'd everyone do with first semester? I am assuming most know by now that we all got 3 extra points on the final exam. Still didn't get my lecture grade to an A...but no biggie. I know those few points helped a few just manage to pass, so that was good. I am not sure if we lost any in my clinical group - 2 were really close, but hopefully they made it!

Dying to know my Spring clinical/lab lineup....ugh

Specializes in PACU.

I got a B in lecture and A in clinical. I also know of one that was really close to failing, like a point away. But I'm sure those 3 extra points helped her. I hope I get my first choice for clinical sites next semester, but I think that's what everyone is picking. And I was dead last, last semester.

Anyone else have their schedule yet?

That's the same rotation I had last semester.

Good luck!
