Yippee! I passed my check-off! I made the mistake of washing my hands before lowering the bed and not after...so I lost a few points. So I think I got a 97. Three in the class failed.
Tomorrow we follow the PCT at the hospital and have the great honor of performing our first baths and bed change. Hope I don't freak out!
But we have enteral next week and only practiced 15 minutes with our instructor.
Yea - same here. I only observed once and practiced once. A lot of us are planning to head up to open lab Monday. I don't have a time slot allotted but am hoping I can squeeze in.
We had a good first clinical day. Saw a lot of things and performed quite a few tasks. It was pretty eye-opening. I have never had an experience working in a hospital so I kinda felt like an idiot at times, but eventually got the hang of it. It was really easy to get emotionally attached to some of the patients. They just look so sad and really want someone to just stay and talk with them. I had the sweetest little lady that was so happy I was there and she asked if I could brush her hair. She had been in the bed for 2 days and her hair was really tangled and messy. It took a while to get it all brushed out but she was so thankful afterwards. Just a simple thing like brushing her hair can make a big difference in how a patient feels. It really made my day! :)
I have my check off tomorrow morning, first-thing. But I am a bit confused on the initial flush...
When making the first water flush (prior to formula), is it performed with the plunger and syringe intact or is it with just the syringe as a gravity flush?
The video shows it one way and we have all been practicing it a different way in lab. We only saw one demo and I forget how the prof did it.
Thanks!
